ChronoComments - Latest Comments Module

acbonner 03 Sep, 2008
Hi Guys - Your new ChronoComments looks excellent.

I want to start using it on my site straight away - Only thing stopping me is my current Comments component comes with a nifty 'Latest Comments' module which is really great showing site-wide comments (shows article title, first x number of characters of comment, x number of comments and links through of course to the article commented on).

Could this be done for ChronoComments? Then it would be Gold Medal status already 😀
Max_admin 03 Sep, 2008
Hi acbonner,

the module and some improvements will be added to teh component and all released in a few hours!🙂

I will move this post to the ChronoComments forums too once created!

Cheers

Sure, the module is easy to edit, I will try to add those 2 new changes soon, pretty busy today😉

if you got a minute, you can review the extension on the Joomla site, it will help all users know about it more!🙂

    Thank you!

Max, I am definitely going to write a review today. I just want to take a bit more time to make sure I explore and understand the features (and potentials) of ChronoComments so that my review is more informed and helpful to others.

    Thanks!

Max, the changes to the module are great ... except for one glitch. Wherever the module is, whether I limit it to a section or not, it takes the path of the page you're on and adds the article number and comment ID.

Module links in the section page gives me a 404 because the link doesn't give any category.
Module links in the category page makes them all as if they were included in that particular category. I get the right article, but it's linked incorrectly

have you edited the "body" field of the module ?

    Hello Max!🙂

I had made some small changes in the Box Header and Comment Row Content areas for appearance. Now, I guess you need to know that I do have SEF enabled ... but not the sh404SEF extension.

Anyhow, I just reloaded the module. From the home page I get a link that looks something like this:
    (domain)/component/content/article/313#commentID6

So far, so good. However, when I move into the section and categories I get the same as stated above (in my previous post).

    Hi Jim,

I will check the issue and get back to you, I don't think I checked the links in sections pages, they was fine in home page and articles pages though!

    Hello Max,

I hate to tell you, but I have found no change in the way links are created on either of my 2 testing sites after uploading these files. Now, there is a change on my latest test site where I've installed a fresh copy of Joomla1.5.7. On a few replies to replies (I think with a quote) the module was pulling the footer into the mod box and clipping a couple replies ... a now that is not happening. I didn't get that problem in the first site with 1.5.6. Also, if you check it out you'll notice some more strange behavior in the BBCode buttons.

    http://gracebase.com

Make sure to follow the links in the left main menu so you can see how they're all following whatever section and/or category you're in.

    Hi Jim,

Sorry, forgot to tell how the body link should be rewritten :

    <strong>{name}:</strong><a href="{page_link}#commentID{id}">{text}</a><br>

Max ... yes, that did it! Thanks. 😀

On the other matter ... did you happen to check out the BBCode Buttons on that site?

ChronoComments - Latest Comments Module image 1

This only happens on the J!1.5.7 installation, though it also did the same on the 1.5.6 version until a few comments got logged. However it doesn't want to clear up with the addition of numerous comments in 1.5.7. Like I say, this was a fresh install of the latest Joomla version, not an upgrade.

After each posting the buttons are lining up correctly, like on the other site, however they revert back with a refresh. I've tried numerous comment entries and yet it is still doing the same thing.😟

Hi Jim, I need to look at this site and may need some admin login, I believe there is some problem with this site, do you have any other mambots installed ? what does they do ? try to disable them ?

    Max ... either you're a genius 😀 or I'm a moron 🙄 ............. or maybe a little of both 🤣

So far I have not installed all the plugins/mambots I have on my other test site so I wasn't even thinking in that direction. There is one plugin I still use that I had installed along with the yvcomment extension, which is the yvbbcode, that I use for my articles. Somehow, I had overlooked the check that enabled the option:
Enable BBCode replacements for the whole page (even here)
I had purposely disabled that option in my other site, and I thought I did the same on this one. Oh well, another reminder to check and recheck all those little checkboxes!

    Thanks for your patience!

So that the newest comment is in the top of the list?

    Hi robkvi,

Looks to me like changing the sort order in line 489 of chronocomment.php from ASC to DESC should to it.
    $query = "SELECT * FROM #__chrono_comments WHERE component = '".JRequest::getVar('component')."' AND pageid= '".JRequest::getVar('pageid')."' AND parentid='0' AND published='1' AND verify='1' ORDER BY datetime ASC".$limit;

I would like to make this set MODULE BODY like this:

+ Name of the article link
+ here is the content of the comments

Then the code should be how to set it ?
    Max_admin 19 Oct, 2008
    Hi Ryan,

What's "+ Name of the article link " ? the article title ? but the module can grab the comments from many articles, let me know!

To make an analogy like this:

ChronoComments - Latest Comments Module ----- this is article title

What's "+ Name of the article link " ? the article title ? but the module.... ------------ This is the latest comments of the above article,
    Max_admin 20 Oct, 2008
    Hi Ryan,

Currently the module doesn't support getting the article title, only the article link, we may do this with some hack if you are interested.

Hello, i did a quick hack to adjust the module to display most commented items.

I'm posting just the helper.php, since all the modifications are there: sql query and display without name/comment preview - only the article title (the Comment row content must be modified from administration also to be like: <a href="{page_link}">{text}</a><br> or <a href="{page_link}#commentID{id}">{text}</a><br> )

    Enjoy 😀
