We have some sites that work perfectly fine with Joomla 3.x and Chronoforms V4.
Yes, CF 4 from about 6 years ago.
Everything has always worked fine and we have always kept up to date with Joomla releases.
However, we Joomla 4 on the horizon, can Max or anyone else let me know if old versions of Chronoforms will work with Joomla 4?

Hi,
I expect that Max will release versions of CFv5 and CFv6 including any necessary changes for Joomla 4. He may also release an update for CFv4 but that is several years old now and if major changes are required that may not happen.

Sorry, I have no specific info. Normally I'd expect a release around the time Joomla 4 is released.

It appears that unless there are forthcoming CFv4 and CCv4 updates the end of the v4 road is here.
If the results of my tests are correct, both CFv4 and CCv4 are facing compatibility issues on at least two fronts. I have an extensive application developed in CFv4 and CCv4 which continues to run well on Joomla 3.8.10 using PHP 5.6. Yesterday, I ran two tests on my system.
The first test was to simply upgrade the version of PHP that my server is using. I was concerned because PHP 7.0 deprecates a number of functions that are utilized in CFv4 and CCv4 code. Sure enough, after the PHP upgrade, the system generated errors due to deprecated code in CFv4. Login to the front end of my application became impossible. Reverting back to PHP 5.6 resolved the errors.
The second test was to simply upgrade Joomla to v3.90 (no PHP upgrade involved). This also resulted in my application becoming unusable. (I accounted for the documented upgrade bug in CFv4 and manually created the appropriate version folder called j3.9). As I said earlier, my site uses CFv4 as well as CCv4 - CCv4 seemed to be responsible for most of the errors in this test.
Any additional information concerning these issues and the future of the v4 products is welcome.
(By the way, CFv4 and CCv4 have been excellent and I am also quite happy with v6.)

Max certainly is no longer developing CFv4 but does usually fix serious PHP or Joomla! bugs.
I have CFv4 running with Joomla! 3.9.1 and PHP 7.2 with no major problems that I have noticed. There are some PHP 'deprecated' messages but I believe I posted a fix for those here last week.(if not it was an email reply and I can dig them out).

Apparently I don't have the the GH 'magic touch'! I just tried changing the PHP version from 5.6 back to 7 to see if maybe I would have better luck this time. I also turned System error messages to none and of course that did get rid of the 'deprecated errors'. However, attempting to log into the frontend of my system still gives a '0 Class Cfaction not found' error. (Un-publishing the CFv4 module that appears on my homepage allows a successful frontend login.)
In regards to the Joomla 3.9 upgrade, it appears that you are correct and CFv4 does work. CCv4 (which I use extensively), however, seems to have problems.
Any more of your useful insights on how I might be able to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated!
