Custom Code editor stopped working

Chas_L 03 Dec, 2016
Hello,

I have discovered recently that the Custom Code editor has stopped working, not on one but several sites where I use Chronoforms. Is this due to recent updates in Joomla?

The symptom is the same in all cases;

1. Open form already created
2. Select the CODE button
3. Click the drop down selector 'Wizard Designer / Custom Code'

The display underneath does NOT change to the Custom code as expected, leaving just the array of designer fields showing.

Even selecting a DEMO form, the code editor does not change. See attached screen shot.

On one development site I am working on, I uninstalled and reinstalled CF but the same issue remains.

Related to this, I tried to add a new text box for email subject. Added the box, changed the field name, ID and label text but when saved and tested the text box still showed the words 'Text Label' instead of what I has used.

Hope you can assist.

Regards

Chas.

Hi Chas,

That is exactly how it has always been. I'm not sure what you are expecting.

If you use 'Wizard Designer' option then you build the form HTML in the Designer tab and can see the result in the Code tab.

If you use the 'Custom Code' option then any further changes in the Designer tab will be ignored and you can edit the HTML directly in the Code tab. Or better in an HTML editor and copy and paste it back into the Code tab.

IMHO in general it is simpler and safer to use the Wizard Designer option and to add in chunks of custom code where needed using Custom Code elements in the Designer tab.

Thanks for the quick reply Greyhead,

I had not gone along far enough, the editor option I was trying to use was in the email template part of the SETUP. My mistake.

The code drop down (Wizard/Custom) however does not change the display of the code beneath. So that's why I got confused.

Hi Chas,

In the Email Action you should see these two settings:

Template Generation: with Custom and Auto settings. Custom here will let you create a custom template; Auto will over-ride whatever is there with a new auto-template every time you save the form. I recommend the default Custom.

The Switch Editor button, just under that should turn on and off the WYSIWYG editor for the template text area. If that is not working there may be a JavaScript error on the page???

No errors Bob and that editor switches between code and HTML display just fine.

It's been a while since I had to edit a form so it's probably just me not remembering correctly what I did last time.

Not to worry. Thanks for your help.
