Hello,
i have to perform a new installation of joomla on a joomla site where i had chronoforms v5 installed. I realize i may have done something stupid by simply deleting (or trying to) all the files on the website's server (after backing up all the content i needed to save) instead of uninstalling choronforms via the joomla site administrator page. Now i have on the host server some chronoforms folders that cannot be deleted (access denied). it does not accept any change in file permission either. Moreover, all the folders that i can't delete show also a different number in the "owner/group" column on my ftp program (i use filezilla).
I cannot delete these folders from the plesk platform of the host either. the problem occur also in a library called "cegcore". for what i can understand this is also related to chronoforms (but i might be wrong).
thanks in advance if someone has any advise

Hi maqroll71,
There is nothing special about the ChronoForms files - they are editable and deleteable in the same way as any other Joomla! file. Ito looks as though they were installed and are 'owned' by a different user (a server user, not a Joomla! user) and the user you are using doesn't have the necessary permissions to edit them.
I'm guessing that you my have had FTP enabled on your Joomla! site when the component was installed; in that case Joomla! uses the FTP user to upload the files.
Setting the permissions to 777 or 755 should be OK - but you may need to use CPanel to do that if you can't do it with your FTP login,
Bob

Hello Bob, thanks a lot for your reply.
the website host provides plesk as control platform, i assume it's something similar to the cPanel, am i right?
from plesk i cannot change permissions in the folders that i can't delete. the link to permissions, active in other folders, is not in the ones that i cannot delete. I attach 2 screen shots of the plesk file manager, where it also shows the different user and group for the folders in question.
just in case, here's a summary of what i did:
1. i installed joomla (a 3.3.something version, if i remember well) by copying all the files from the joomla package onto the site's server by using mozilla
2. i installed joomla according to their instructions (i did it many other times for other sites)
3. i installed chronoforms via the joomla extensions manager. to do so, i set permissions to 777 for the folders "administrator", "components", "libraries" and "temp", otherwise the installation would not work. when i was done, i set the permission of the above folders back to 755
4. shortly before christmas i received a note from my host that i should update my joomla to at least 3.4.7 because of some major security issues. i tried via the joomla admin back end but it did not work. so i quickly backed up the content of the website and went on and deleted all joomla files from the fpt, with the idea of re-doing the installation with the most recent joomla version.
5. when all the deleting process was finished, some folders are still there, basically all those related to chronoforms. that's why i contacted you. I am hoping the host can override these permission problems and delete the files for me, but they are not exactly quick in responding, i guess because of the christmas break.
i guess there's not much you can do other than your already kind and prompt reply. but i thought it was worth sending the 2 screenshots and the above summary. maybe there's something obvious that i am missing.
thanks a lot in advance and best wishes

Hi Paolo,
You are right - Plesk is an alternative to CPanel.
It looks as though the user you are using doesn't have the permissions needed to delete the files. Your web-host should be able to advise you want you need to do to clear them.
