I've been experimenting with Chronoforums. I would like to share a discovery I have made.
In my preliminary examination of the product, one puzzling aspect was that all emails received when I subscribed to topics were sent from "root user" (whatever that means).
I discovered (by trial-and-error) that Chronoforums does not appear to use the email settings in the Joomla Global Configuration. The forum mail settings are configured in
Settings » Email config » From name
Settings » Email config » From email
Settings » Email config » Mailing method
I discovered that the first two of these settings cannot be left blank. Even if you change the first setting to be non-blank, emails will still be sent from "root user". Therefore, to help other people who may be curious as to how to remedy this matter, I suggest the following:
From name can be any text string you like but it might take the form "<website-name> Forum"
From email should be the same value as Joomla Global Configuration » Server » Mail Settings »
From email. Alternatively, you might be able to use a different email account if you like (but I haven't tried it).
[Mailing method should be the same value as Joomla Global Configuration » Server » Mail Settings » Mailer
When I made these changes, my emails were then sent from a more meaningful "sender".
Of course if anyone has a different suggestion I'd be glad to see it.
