Upgrading releases
For any of the current CFv4, CFv5, CFV6, CCv4, CCv5 or CCv6 releases you can upgrade by installing the new version over the older one. If you have an older version of CFv3 you may need to uninstall and re-install, please check the notes on the download page for your previous version. To upgrade the CF plug-ins and module you need to uninstall and re-install.
It should not be necessary, but for security it is worth taking a backup of your forms and any ChronoForms related database tables before upgrading.
Upgrading versions
There is no automatic upgrade from CFv3 to CFv4 or from CFv4 to CFv5 or from CFv5 to CFv6
There is an experimental restore in CFv5 that will retore CFv4 forms but you only get the form HTML and the layout does not match the CFv5 layout. And the same for CFv5 and v6.
You can run both CFv4 and CFv5 or CFv5 and CFv6 together on Joomla! 3 and we recommend that you stay with your current version forms; create new forms and re-create old ones in the latest version when they need to be updated or you have the time to do it.
To re-create a form in a newer version I open the older and newer versions of CF in two browser windows and re-create the form element by element and action by action using copy and paste to transfer names, labels, ids, and other settings.
