Corrupt Install - Won't save

primalduty 27 Apr, 2015
I'm having a terrible time trying to get a form on a new site.I have installed Chronoforms on 10 other websites but this one is throwing me for a loop.

Observations:
1. When I install a new package I receive a blank white screen when finished.
2. I then get back into the Admin and I can see Chronoforms listed in the components
3. I attempt to create a form and it will not save.

What I have done.
1. Thinking the original file was corrupt I downloaded a new version of the software (2x)
2. uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times (verifiying there was not any components left in both admin or website component folders.
3. boosted max_input_vars to 4000 (local value) & 2000 (master value) from 1000

I have seen these errors:
JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /home/netinsco10/public_html/koraloc.com/administrator/components/com_chronoforms5

JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /home/netinsco10/public_html/koraloc.com/administrator/components/com_chronoforms5

JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file.

JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /home/netinsco10/public_html/koraloc.com/components/com_chronoforms5

JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /home/netinsco10/public_html/koraloc.com/components/com_chronoforms5

JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file.

Does anybody have any ideas how I can get a clean install?

PS. I'm using a Joomla Shine template.

Hi primalduty,

Run Uninstall from the Joomla! Extensions Manager.

Use an FTP editor to check that all of the ChronoForms folders are gone
+ /components/com_chronoforms5
+ /administrator/components/com_chronoforms5
+ /libraries/cegcore

In PHPMyAdmin check that the CF tables are gone - you may also need to remove records from the Joomla! Components table

Get the latest 5.0.9 release of CFv5 and try installing that from scratch.

Thanks for responding Bob. This morning I have attempted to install from scratch again and only getting a partial install.
I followed your suggested steps above and I'm still receiving the same outcome. Mainly a white screen upon install and can't save any forms.

When I run uninstall on the following items I receive the following messages:

Warning:
Attempting to uninstall unknown extension from package. This extension may have already been removed earlier.

Message:
Uninstalling package was successful.
Uninstalling component was successful.
Error uninstalling .
ChronoForms5 Package
ChronoForms5
CEGCore
I verified there are not any Chronoforms tables prior new install. I can not locate any Joomla! Component table.

Is there a way to install manually?

Hi primalduty,

Please set Site Error reporting to Maximum and see if you then get a PHP error message where you see a white screen.

I don't understand about saving forms? I thought that the installation was failing?

In Joomla! 3 it's the #__extensions table where Joomla! keeps the component records.

Thank you for the idea to set error reporting, I will try that. I believe the install is failing as the install never finishes properly. I do not receive the "Green" bar with "Install successful" message. But after the install attempt when I remove parts of the URL leaving just the administrator portion of the URL I can see that Chronoforms is installed but it does not work properly. I'm guessing because of a faulty install.

I shared the fact that it does not save as an observation relative to what I'm guess is a faulty install.

With error reporting set to maximum I still receive a white screen about 10 seconds after installing.

This is the URL of the white screen: http://www.my_domain.com/koraloc.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_chronoforms5&cont=installer

HI Mike,

The URL looks OK but is not helpful, I'm surprised that you aren't seeing any error - that is a bit odd.

P.S., I have needed to dropped this table a few times after uninstalling: chronoengine_extensions and I do not see any CF entries in the extensions folder.

Should I remove the link in the previous post?

Is there a process to install Chronoforms manually? Amazingly, I can't get a good install.

Hi Mike,

I think that the normal Joomla! manual installation - upload to the temp folder and run from there should work (I'm not certain about the CEGCore library - that may need a separate installation). It may be possible to do a fully manual installation but there are so many steps I doubt it's worthwhile.

It must be a problem with the joomla install or the way Joomla Shine is configured because I just installed V5.0.9 on another joomla site without problem. I really dislike when this kind of thing happens. I loose money :-(

I went live with the site and just used joomla shines form builder that came with the template. I wish I can make it work. I also notice the JCE editor is not installing very well either so, it must be an issue with my joomla install.

Thank for your suggestion Bob.

PS, thanks for modifying the link. ;-)

Hi primalduty,

Which JoomlaShine template were you using? If it's a free one I can download a copy and see if I can work out what is happening.

Thanks Bob,

I'm not using a free one, it's the JS Mini pro. I'm going to install a second version of the site on another server and see if it was the joomla install. Once I have another instance of it I'll let you know how the install goes. If it reacts the same way and you still want to help I'll PM you the info to play with it.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I was able to do a manual installation and ChronoForms is now working - at least I was able to create a minimal test form.

Editing them still seems to show occasional blank pages but if you back up the action appears to have been completed.

I suspect ??? that the problem is with some part of the Joomla Shine Admin components but I'm not certain and have no idea which part.
