I just started setting up ChronoForum and I'm tearing my hair out! I've read your document on the Permissions multiple times, but nothing is working as would be expected. I'm trying to setup my forum so that the first page is visible to the public, but if they want to post a reply, they must login. Is that even possible?
Right now it's all or none to the public. I don't know what else to do.
I have my permissions considering your directions. http://www.chronoengine.com/faqs/68-chronoforums/5193-permissions-setup.html
Display/Access the forums: everybody is allowed
Create New Topics: Public - Not Set, Registerd - Allowed, Owner - Allowed
Read/View Topics: everyone is allowed
Post Replies: Public - Not Set, Registerd - Allowed, Owner - Allowed
Moderate: Public - Not Set, Registered - Not Set, Super User - Allowed, Owner - Allowed
etc.
I'm using Joomla 3.3.6
Help!!!!
Hi wlma,
Assuming that everything is "not set" except the desired groups are allowed then your config should work fine.
But you should do 2 things:
#1- after any permissions change, you must logout then login again on the frontend.
#2- if your Joomla install had any demo data then please go to the users manager and open the "options" then make sure the guest group is set to "public" and SAVE the options.
Let me know how this works!

Max

So with those settings, I shouldn't get this?: http://woodbridgelaurels.com/community-forum
Anybody can post. How do I turn that off?
What do you have under the "make topics" and "post replies" permissions ? normally you should have the "registered" and "super users" set to allowed, other groups should be "not set".

That is what I have setup now...
Create New Topics
public - not set
-Guest - not set
-Manager - not set
--Administrator - not set
-Registered - allowed
--Author - not set
---Editor - not set
----Publisher - not set
-Super User - allowed
Owner - allowed
Post Replies
public - not set
-Guest - not set
-Manager - not set
--Administrator - not set
-Registered - allowed
--Author - not set
---Editor - not set
----Publisher - not set
-Super User - allowed
Owner - allowed
Yet the public is able to create new topics and post replies.
Ok, please try to login then logout and test again, also please clear your browser's cache before doing this.
Let me know!

I've cleared the cache in the component menu, I've cleared the Joomla cache twenty times. I've cleared the cache on all six different browsers on two different computers. Nothing I do changes it. With these settings, you should not be able to post or reply, because you are "Public". What else can I do? I've been working on trying to fix this for several days now and I have no more time to spend. I would like to please ask for my $25 back. I'll need to try another forum component.
Hi wlma,
Could you please send me a message using the "Contact us" page ? we can then either login and try to fix the problem for you or make a refund.
Thanks!

Hi wlma,
After checking your website, here are some of the things which could have created this problem:
#1- under the users manager options, the guest group was set the "registered", this is a big problem, it should be set to "public".
#2- the forums distinct permissions setting was enabled, which means that each forum can have its own permissions setup, this would make things harder to configure.
#3- You had the website cache ON, its advised to keep this OFF when testing new stuff on your website, in order to be able to test any new changes made as quick as possible.
