Language issue

Hi,

Just started out trying ChronoForums for a new site. Looks quite nice but I've run into an issue with the language constants. If a variable is called from within the constant, like "% Items", then the variable is not shown and neither is the first letter (and only the first letter) of the translation.

I'm using the Dutch (nl_nl) localization. Example:

"Resultaat % naar % van % items ." is shown as:
"Resultaat aar an tems ."

Hope you can help me on this one.

By the way, I agree with the topic starter of this topic: http://www.chronoengine.com/forums/posts/f30/t91331/how-to-translate-chronoforum.html, who asks you rearrange your localization files according to Joomla standards. I'm quite an experienced Joomla user but as you do not follow the standards it took me quite some time to find out where the nl_nl file is located.

Please verify that there is a space after the "%" sign ? because it works fine here and nobody had any complains with other translations!🙂

Hi Max,

Yes, there are spaces after the "%" character, sometimes even more than one space. I attached the file so you can have a look at it (had to change the extension to txt as php was not allowed).

If you'd want to take a look at the site I can give you login details. In that case, please provide a secure way to do this. The site is in development at a temporary develop location and its front end is password protected.

Sorry, it looks like I lost focus while writing the last post and mixed between a space and "s"

Actually there should be no space, there should be "s", so it should be:

Resultaat %s naar %s van %s items .

This helped indeed, thanks. But I'm afraid I've found another issue in this language file:

I subscribed to a topic so I would receive a notification mail when a new post was made. I did get the notification but it contained a string that clearly wasn't substituted by real content:

Een nieuwe reactie wordt geplaatst op een van de onderwerpen waarop je geabonneerd bent , kun je het op deze link:
{ Topic.title_link }

I hope the solution for this is as simple as the % - %s replacement.

Also it seems to me that the content of the Dutch language file was created using Google Translate, as I see quite a few lines that certainly are different from how we would say this in real life. I hope to find time for some improvements. When I'm done can donate the improved file to you, if you like.

Here's my revised Dutch language file, which contains:

- fixes for the damaged strings as discussed above;
- some improvements to the content, though not systematically reviewed.

Hope this is of use to others.

Remarks about the file name:

- I changed lang.php into lang_revised.php for identification of the file;
- Then I changed the .php extension to .txt because otherwise this forum would not accept the file.
