Very long email delay?

CardOneConcepts 28 Aug, 2014
Hello,

I have been using Chronoforms for awhile now and love your component!

I am trying to set up a simple referral form that only has a handful of fields asking for the friends name and email address and the referrers name and email address, along with a personalized message. The goal of the email is when the referrer clicks submit the email is sent to the friends email address that is plugged into the form and shows up in the friends inbox as a message coming from the referrers name and email address also plugged into the form.

When I set up an email event to simply go to the form owner as a notification that a referral was made, using the static email info that email comes through almost immediately every-time.

However, when I set up an additional email event or even set it up as the only email event so that the email uses the dynamic to and dynamic from the email either takes 20 - 30 minutes to finally arrive in an inbox?

I double checked that my form field names were correct and I used the debugger, which when I try having 2 email events set up, one to the website owner and the other the referral to the friend, the debugger only acknowledges that the email to the website owner was sent, yet the referral email does finally get sent but only after 20 - 30 minutes. Then when I set up the form to only have one email event that sends the referral to the friend the debug says the email was processed but still takes 20-30 minutes for it to arrive in an inbox?

I also tried using SMTP email settings instead of PHP mailer settings and that did nothing to change the issue.

If you need any other information from me just let me know. This is very frustrating becuase it is a pretty straight forward form set up yet it has been giving me hours of grief! My guess is it has to do with the dynamic inputs but I just don't know and is why I am turning to you for help.

Thank you for your time!

Hi CardOneConcepts,

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you :-(

There is nothing in ChronoForms that will delay an Email. In CFv4 they are just handed over to the Joomla! mailer and submission is pretty much instantaneous.

There may well be delays in your mail service, that isn't common but I have seen it before. You'd need to check with them exactly what is happening.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for getting back to me.

If you are saying that email is instantaneous why would emails set up without dynamic settings get sent immediately but when I use dynamic settings there is a long delay?

I would accept that the mail service could be part of the issue, but I can not understand why my mail service would delay emails using dynamic settings? I am by no means an expert, but simple logic points to the component as a possible cause more than the mail service?

I did check with my host and nothing seems out of the ordinary on their end? Any thoughts on what I can do here?

Thank you for your time!

Hi CardOneConcepts,

My guess - and it is only a guess. is that if you are using a Dynamic From Email address then your email service marks those emails as possible spam and they are 'set aside' for extra checking of some kind.

If you are using Dynamic From Email addresses then please try using a static From Email that matches the site domain and a Dynamic Reply To Name and Email instead.
