Contact form sending to Spam/Junk folder

sisinsure 04 Jun, 2012
Hi,
I looked through the forums and tried various things to solve this issue, but to no avail.

The best I could come up with is having a Static/from email address that looks like no-reply@mycompany.com and then a Dynamic/reply-to email address set to Email field name: contact_email.

Then it goes fine to the inbox, but when you hit reply-to-email, it has no-reply@companyname.com; dynamic_email@address.com.

I just want it to go into the inbox and be able to reply to just the email from the sender.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sisinsure,

There are a couple of things going on here and it gets a bit messy :-(

First I usually recommend that you don't use the Dynamic From addresses because they are the most common reason for emails being marked as spam and dropped. Check if they work or not with the mailserver on your site and the 'normal' recipient. If they work then by all means use them - if emails suddenly stop arriving check if the mail server or the recipient server have tightened up their spam checks.

If you can't use Dynamic From addresses then you hit the second problem. Joomla! has changed some of the code used in the mailer in the recent versions and it introduces a bug - when a Reply To address is added the From address is also added. The bug has been reported but I think that the chance of it being fixed are slim, some code is deprecated and there is a combination of settings that are triggered here.

I've tried some fixes and workarounds but haven't yet found a reliable one. See the core code hack in this post
