Newb question: how to upgrade?

clare12345 17 Oct, 2007
Do i need to uninstall and re-install? Or is there another way?
Help needed!
Thanks!

Hi clare12345,

You can install and uninstall but you *must* backup your ChronoForms database tables first or you may lose all forms and data.

The safer way is to FTP up the new files to replace the existing ones.

When I FTP the new files, do I replace all the old ones? How do I know which ones to replace?
Thanks!

Hi Clare,

I've just uploaded an 'upgrade' package for 2.3.4 - see the Announcements Forum.

I just unzipped the file and FTP'ed it to my com_chronocontact folder. It installed, but I don't think anything changed (problem with image verification). Did I do the wrong thing? Sorry Im still learning.

Hi Clare,

You have to be a bit more subtle than that - there are two com_chronocontact folders one in 'administrator/components' and the other in 'components'. You need to get the right files in each folder - the folder structure inside the zip is like this - it should work if you extract to your root folder.

Does that mean the root Joomla folder? I'm hoping I'm getting this.
Thanks!

Hi Clare,

Yes, that should be good.

Hi,

I attempted to upgraded to 2.3.4 vrom 2.3.2 via FTP using the

chronoforms_2-d1543eca4a148c9d56472d506b670445.zip

file the Bob posted earlier.

I unzipped the files and copies into the appropriate sub-dir, but:

1. The Installer still shows 2.3.2 and not 2.3.4
2. I still get the same error as previously posted on THE TABLE ALREADY EXISTS.

Any more hints to fix would be great.

Also, If I decided to UNINSTALL and REINSTALL, where are the files that I need to backup be located?

Thanks!

Mike

Hi Mike,

1. The installer date is wrong, Max forgot to change it in the xml file. YOu can change it if it bugs you too much.

2. I'll reply to THE TABLE ALREADY EXISTS when I can find your other posting.

3. The 'safe' way to backup your site is to backup all the installation folders and the database before you make any major changes. In practice, when updataing ChronoForms you can make a copy of the two ChronoForms folders ({root}/administrator/components/chronoforms and {root}/components/chronoforms) and back up each of the chronoforms tabels from the database (jos_chrono_contact and any jos_chronoforms_n tables - one for each form you've created a table for).

ChronoForms also gives you the option of backing up your form code into backup files that can be re-installed into another version of ChronoForms.
