Captcha In Easy Wizard

gvalcho 28 Sep, 2011
Hi, I've just started using Chronoforms today. I'm using V4 in Joomla 1.7.0, and on a second site that has 1.7.1. My simple form works just like advertised on 1.7.0. On 1.7.1 I can't get the email sent or data written to the database. I've been through every field on each form to insure they are identical.

Have you seen anything about 1.7.1 that would cause these issues?

Also, here's what I noticed about Captcha. If you build a form in the Easy Wizard and DO NOT included a Captcha the form will not work, because the Events include Check Captcha. When this occurs, if you go back to admin and add the Captcha, the form will not display the new field, even after cache is cleared. There is a delay for some reason. After an hour or so, go back to the site and refresh the screen and finally the Captcha displays. Then, if you type the Captcha incorrectly, the screen does not provide an error message and interestingly, the Captcha image stays the same (does not reset). My gut tells me that the code changes but the image stays the same. This then causes the mismatches that are being widely reported in the forum. You can reset the page (F5) numerous times and the image will stay exactly the same. Again, if you get away from the site, eventually the image will drop out of cache and you can get a new image.

Finally, in the Easy Wizard the Check Captcha Event is set to Enabled: NO. Is this correct, shouldn't it be set to Enabled: Yes?

Many thanks in advance. I see many positive comments regarding your support, and it is appreciated!

Hi Gvalcho,

I updated to Joomla! 1.7.1 yesterday. I just ran a test and both Email and DB Save appear to be working correctly.

Creating a form in the Easy Wizard doesn't require a Captcha - I think that's because the Check Captcha is set to disabled.

Max is currently looking at the problem with the repeated Captcha errors.

Thanks, it must be the Captcha then, I'm going to remove the Captcha from both forms today and retest.

Hi, I started from scratch and built an easy form. No validation, no Captcha, just email delivery of data in 5 fields. Still, I cannot get an email generated. Would it be possible to send the backup to you? I tried attaching the backed-up file, but the file extension was not permitted.

I used Easy Wizard, I thought it would work immediately. I'm beginning to wonder if I have a Jquery conflict or something like that.

Now I look at the events in the Advanced Wizard, and I see Load Captcha and Check Captcha, but I did not include a Captcha in the very easy form I built. Should I remove these events? Also, I'm not using CSS or JS but there is Load CSS and Load JS in the Events. I did not save to Db but DB Save event is included. Should these be removed?

Thanks, George

Hi George,

Please take a Form Backup using the icon in the Forms Manager and post it here (as a zipped file) or PM or email it to me and I'll take a closer look.

Hi George,

The Easy Wizard adds a lot of unused events, you can delete any that you don't need.

I've just published a few video tutorials including one on adding Captcha to a form.

Thanks for taking a look at this (attached). I have tried everything. I've been through every field and every Event looking for something that might be out of place. I also watched the videos. This form does not have a Captcha. Everything seems so easy on the vids, yet I have spent hours on this one form, with no email generated and no TY message appearing. This is a 1.7.0 site. I have removed the form from the site, but I can expose it if necessary for your review.

Hi George,

The form appears to work OK. I replaced your email with mine in the To box and it sends (see below).

Can your site send emails? I usually check with the 'Email a Friend' link in an article but you appear to have that turned off.

I turned on the Email Icon in the About Us article. It works.

If you need access to the admin area, I'll be happy to share that with you. This is a very simple site, there are not many add-ons. I use Simple Picture Slide Show, Very Simple Image Gallery, SEF, YouJoomla Template with their Mega Menu, Akeeba backup, and that's about it. Also, I have BreezingForms installed. I was trying this as well.

I'm hosted at GoDaddy.

Thanks for your continued pursuit of this issue!

Hi George,

By all means email or PM me the site URL and a SuperAdmin login and I'll take a quick look.

I sent a PM to you for this thread.

Hi George,

This is working now; at least I've just received an email from the Contact form.

The only change I made was to remove the entry from the 'Attachments fields name' box. This is used to attach uplaoded files to the email and your form doesn't have any (also there was a typo in the entry with a '.' instead of a ',' between two field names).

Now I am really confused. I did not recall the form having anything in the "Attachments field name." Therefore, I renamed the current form and re-imported the backed-up file that I sent you. The field was blank in the zip file I sent.

Also, I received the email that was generated from your test. However, the email content was blank. In the form I forwarded to you, the email template had standard text generated using the "Generate Auto Text" button.

Lastly, the form on the site does not work. It does not send an email, and it does not go to a Thank You message. Interestingly, when I go to "Frontend View" in the "Forms Manager" the form DOES send an email, and it DOES display the Thank You message.

The user ID I provided is still active if you want to take a look!

Thanks, George

Hi George,

I've lost track of what you are asking here. I got a mail to send successfully from your site this morning. Since then you've replace the form with a backup copy. That sends OK from the form page but not when it is using the Plug-in or Module. Is that correct?

Where is the form on the site? I'm not sure why it would work from one location but not from another.

I had to take the form off the site because it was not working.

Here's the good news. I started from scratch on another site I manage. I loaded Chronoforms and the Plug In. I started a form using the Wizard (not the Easy Wizard) and it works perfectly.

I have two other sites using Chronoforms. On each I have the same problem, the form does not send, and the thank you page does not display. In both cases I started the form using the Easy Forms Wizard, then I moved to the Advanced Wizard when I knew more about your product. In both instances I initially included a Captcha in the form. I initially thought the Captcha not working caused my issues. But upon removing the Captcha the form still did not perform. (In these two examples the form works from the Frontend View but not on the site.)

I am now inclined to believe that the issue I'm experiencing is caused by switching from Easy Wizard to Advanced Wizard. Maybe something stays in place in the back-end when this switch is made.

My next step will be to unistall the Component and Plugin from my other two sites, reinstall and build forms without the Easy Wizard.

I'll let you know if this resolves my issues.

Many thanks again for keeping up with your forum!!!

Hi George,

It's quite possible that the change from Easy Wizard to Advanced Wizard can cause this. I haven't seen it but I use the Easy Wizard very little. Once you understand how the form works it's just as simple to build in the Advanced Wizard.

I'll list this as a possible bug for Max to take a look at.

Well, it did not work on Red River Lights. I unistalled the component and the plugin. Then I reinstalled. When I rebuilt the form it still did not work. I'm guessing there are DB records that also need to be cleared before a reinstall? Any thoughts on this?

And the forms still work in Frontend View mode.

Hi George,

If you used the Joomla! Uninstaller then the tables will have been removed.

I'm still not sure where the form is on your site? Were you using it with the plug-in? or the module? or a menu link?

Hi, I'm using the plug-in, but when I'm not working on the form, I remove it from the article. It's under the Contact Us menu item, when I put in the article.

FYI...I have a different form program in place right now.
