Recall data from database to update it

dial 05 Apr, 2011
Hi everyone,

I've just installed and setup ChronoForums, so far I can successfully write the form into my mysql database. So I'm half way there and it's looking great.

However, I would also like to be able to update an existing database entry at a later date.

For example, on day one I would enter the following, without the callback completion date:

On day two I would like to bring up the above information just by entering the case number so I may then enter the callback completion date.

Maybe after tabbing out of the case number or clicking an update button it would bring up the above entry so I may enter a callback completion date.

Then submit the form again so the database contains one entry based on that unique case number.

If anyone has some step by step information on if/how I can archive this then that would be great.

Daniel

PS: I spent about 2 hours on the forums last night, still unable to find a solution.

Hi Daniel,

Which version of ChronoForms are you using v3.2 or v4?

Either way the process is to use the entered code to get the remaining form detail. The simplest way is to use two step from with the first step to get the Case number from a drop-down or a list or by typing in; the second step would then use this infor to get the data from the database and display a pre-populated from for updating. In ChronoForms 3.2 the Profile Page plug-in is designed for this task ( don't think that there is an equivalent for CFv4 yet).

The more sophisticated way to do this is in a single form using Ajax to update the inputs once the Case Number is specified. This isn't very difficult but is more complex if you aren't familiar with Ajax code.
