Tour Booking Site

Checkmate 15 Dec, 2010
We have a tour booking site and do not want to use a shopping cart.

So we would need a system that is easy to add new "tours" as we begin to offer more.

User would come to our homepage.

Click on a tour.

Read about it.

Click the "book it" button

On the book it page it would collect user info. (name, billing address, email, phone number) payment info.

ask how many adult tickets

how many kid tickets.

drop down of pickup locations.

maybe one other drop down with additional options if available.

auto calculate the total.

hit buy now button.

confirmation page to review order.

user final approval.

upon approval, authorize.net runs the credit card.

upon successful transaction they get an email/receipt with instructions on what to do next as well as being their "ticket".

we would also need a copy of the email.

Let me know a cost and time line.

Looking to start right now!

By coincidence I am already working on such a project. Note: it's Joomla 1.5 at this stage.

It's a work in progress but you can see the current status at: http://cewa2.webilicious.com.au

Tours are entered via an admin only option once the administrator is logged in to the front-end. A ChronoForm is used to collect the data and store it in the database or to retrieve it and edit it.

Tours can be searched via a search form and a list of tours is displayed. A tour detail page is available for each tour.

I wanted something simpler than a shopping cart that would integrate with ChronoForms so and I have managed to work out how to interface ChronoForms with "Payment Form" which is a commercial (but not expensive) extension supporting various payment methods including Authorize.net.

I have tried to minimise the effort in maintaining tours so that (for example), the tour menus are automatically populated from the active tours in the database (using RokNavMenu) so that the client does not need to know how to create an article or a menu option, she just enters the tour information and the rest is all done for her! Similarly for visitors, once a tour has been selected and the number of adults and children is selected, the total amount is automatically calculated for them during the booking/payment process.

I think what I have created is exactly as you describe except for the drop down of pick-up locations, which could easily be added!

Feel free to get in touch if you think this looks like what you are after.

Neil

Note: Data is not complete for all tours yet so some of the listings and detail pages don't look how they are supposed to look. For example, you will find a slide show on the Pinnacles Day Tour but few, if any, of the other tours have any slide show images loaded yet.

I just realised the original post is ancient!

I'm pretty sure this post was at the top to start with though!

It looks like there are similar posts from a while ago somehow appearing at the top of the board.

Is this happening for anyone else or is it just me?

Neil.

Hi Neil,

I don't usually view the board that way so can't tell you. We are having a lot of spam posts though - mostly deleted before it is visible - that may sometimes make it look as though there is a new post in an old thread?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply.

I think it might be a spam issue. Form the total shown, it looks like there should be one more post in the thread than there is. Presumably this is because a spam post has been deleted.

I really wanted that tour booking website job!

Oh well, never mind.🙂

Neil.
