Impact on site speed and search engines

Hi,

This is a question I need to get my head around before I can start using another comment system. I have been using JComments on a Joomla 1.5 article/blog section but the negative seo impact is apparent. The system called reams and reams of styling from css file and was a large component.

How does Chrono perform? I want something fast and lightweight since Google seems to be focussed on site speed and quality right now.

Any opinions on this?

I've also heard that site speed is a component of seo in Google, but I don't think its anything major within their algorithms. Matt Cutts was directly asked this question and he said to not put so much significance on site speed, only quality.
