Saving form data to a database

kimhuff 18 Aug, 2010
I would like to save the data we collect into a database. I tried to follow the direction in the PDF tutorial but the screen shown in the tutorial looks nothing like what my screen looks like. None of the same options are there.

How can I make the form save to a database so when I am ready I can download all the data and open it into an Excel file? Do you have an updated How To section?

Hi Kim,

Yes the tutorial is for an older versaion of ChronoForms but I think that the main difference is the Create Table step. The functionality is the same but the interface has changed (and not for the better). Select the tick icon at the top right to select all the inputs (selected inputs are **green** bars).

Bob,

Thank you for the quick reply. I feel bad for bothering you on that.. I should have figured it out on my own, but I didnt see a post on it and it just didnt seem to be working.

One more question. How will I export all of this data out of the database. Will I need to retrieve it from phpMyAdmin or is there a way to do it from within Joomla?

Hi Kim,

You can probably do it from within ChronoForms. The Data Viewer has CSV & Excel export icons. CSV if reliable, there are occasional problems with the Excel export with large datasets, special characters and some other glitches. There are workarounds for mos tof these in the forums here.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I am not seeing a Data Viewer in the ChronoForms section. I looked at all of the icons at the top and the tabs within my custom form.

Any suggestions?

Hi Kim,

You can click the table link in the Tables Connected column of the Forms Manager; or use the Tables Manager icon in the toolbar.
