Redirect and paypal what is wise to do ?

roarjohansen 06 Aug, 2010
Hi experts🙂

Earlier I tried to use the Paypal API plugin wich sadly engough didnt work as I live in Denmark, the plugin at the moment only works for USA and UK Paypal acounts.

Instead I have gotten the idea to use the redirect plugin. However I find it importent that users if possible stay at my webpage. The most importent thing is that they only get the oppotunity to pay through credit cards. So paypal payment should never be displayed.

First question. Can I do this through the html tags ? Or do I need to use the API alternative, and is that possible for a 95% php novice ?

Second question. Could I use redirect to open the payment page, transer the credit information (card nr. name ect) and then automaticly let the redirect plugin do the work ?

Is it wise to do that ?

Roar

Hi Roar,

You are going to need to get beyond 95% PHP novice to do this without a very steep learning curve.

If you use the ReDirect URL this wil work fine. But the users will be sent to PayPal to make the payment - though you can specify a Return url to bring them back afterwards.

If you want to take credit cards details on your site and hide the fact that you are using PayPal then (a) you will need to use a more sophisticated PayPal setup (I'm not sure which PayPal accounts allow this) and (b) you will need to have a very secure website to reassure people that they are safe giving you their details.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply.
Well its not that I want to hide the fact that they paypal is the payment provider, but paypal is not that know where I live, så people dont trust it in the same way is in the US and UK, and the chance that they want to create a paypal account when paying is absolutly small.

But I guess I can lead the user directly to the creditcard page through redirect. I will try that method.

Best regards

Hi Roar,

Then I suggest that you use the standard PayPal acccount using the ReDirect Plugin but add some user help reminding them that they can pay through PayPal with a credit card without creating a PayPal account or signing in.

You should probably also customise your PayPal set up to make it look familiar - at least a header image.

Lastly, I'd probably track users through this stage to see how many continue through the payment stage. Then you can decide if you need to invest in a different payment system.
