CURL / CURL Debugging Not working again

aef03 14 Oct, 2009
OK, last time I solved this problem by upgrading from RC 5.0 to RC 5.5 and it started working for the form that had been created under RC 5.0.

Now I have a form created natively under 5.5 and both the curl call and curl debugging aren't working for the form.

Debugging is turned on for the form (and working) and debugging for Curl for the form is turned on.

Thanks for any help,
D.

Hi aef03,

Is the plugin enabled - the green bar?

OK,
It is now.

You have chosen a visual metaphor that is the OPPOSITE of the rest of Joomla where the existence of a checkmark indicates enabled and the existence of an "x" indicates disabled. While what you have done looks cool and is more "cognitively pure" (button indicates action you are ABOUT to take), it is working against the best practices of UI design by going against a defacto expectation across all of Joomla and it's extensions.

I would really prefer that it follow the Joomla conventions and I think in the long run you'll get less confusion if it does. I am not pontificating - I had to learn this practical lesson for my site designs through reading "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krugg.

It would seem to make sense to have enablement of the plugin configurable via the plugin parameters as well as on the plugin tab. At the very least it would be very helpful for the plugin's enablement status to display fairly prominently in the plugin configuration page.

Thanks for being so active on the forum posts - really sets your software apart from others!!!

Hi aef03,

Fortunately not my choice - it's Max's code, and he is aware ofthe issue. And I'm careful to spell out the "green bar with the 'x'" because a few people - myself included have fallen foul of this. (The same code is used in the 'create table' dialogue where it's even more misleading).

I'll have a look and see I can set an 'activated' flag in the plugin - I don't have access to the released core code to make any changes there. We have talked about a 'plugins' column in the Forms Manager (like the emails column) - I think that would be helpful.
