A Few Basic ChronoForms Questions

billandre 26 Mar, 2009
Hi,

After downloading and working with ChronoForms for only one day it looks like I will be converting from my current forms application. Before I do, I would like to get the new form that I created to fill all the needs of my site. I have looked through the forums but haven't found the specific answers.

I am developing a site for people planning weddings in my locale. I want the brides to be able to come to the site and fill out a form (my new ChronoForm) which will capture information about their wedding. The information from the form will be stored in a database. The form and the database table have been successfully created.

I am using Joomla 1.5.9 and the new version of Community Builder.
Here are my questions:

1. How can I allow the bride to access the form in case she needs to update her inforation. Only the bride and an administrator should be able to edit the form.

2. I would like the bride to be able to send a link to her family and friends that access a read only version of her information. Can I do this and is it the best way to accomplish the sharing of the information with only certain people?

That's basically it unless someone has a suggestion for integrating the form into the bride's Community Builder profile.

Lastly, I have the form set to send me (the site administrator) an email when someone submits a form. Currently the body of this email is blank with the exception of the IP address of the person who submitted the form. Is this as it should be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi billandre,

I'm not a pro with Community builder so I can't advise about the plugin thing!

regarding the problem with submission, I think you have the email template area of this email empty!

regarding the application you are trying to build, this can be done using 2 x Chronoforms + ChronoConnectivity!

1 x Chronoform to let the bride submit her info the first time!
1 x Chronoform to let her view a read only version!
1 x ChronoConnectivity connection to list the bride's data and give her the permissions to edit it!

we can exclude the connectivity part in case that I managed to finish a new profile plugin for Chronoforms which lets the user add 1 record, but this is not yet ready!

Cheers

Hey Max,

Thanks for the information. I may wait on the new plugin ... grin.

I am just in the process of launching the site so I will just concentrate on the 2 forms first. I have the first one worked out and I think I have read about the read-only form. If I recall, you just create a duplicate form and link it to the database. I will have to work out the part about having the read-only form read in the correct data for the user. Is it a read=only form because you leave off the Submit button?

Thanks again. I'll let you know if I run into a snag.

Hi Bill,

OK, for the read only form and to make it load from the database, the easiest path is to use the "profile" plugin, look at the forums for exact steps how to use it, many posts about this are here!🙂
