Email not working right

doubled 17 Feb, 2009
After submitting a form it will not email to certain accounts, my email address is the only one that it will send to. I have even added a different alias to exchange and that will work but for some reason i cant get emails to go to other people.
GreyHead 17 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

This sounds very unlikely, please turn on DeBug in Chronoforms and paste here the dummy email that is displayed.

If Joomla can send an email to one address then it can - more or less- send an email to any address so something else is wrong with your setup here.

I dont know if this is what you wanted but all of the tests passed as well but i never get the email, it never even gets to our exchange server. But if i use my account it works out fine.

Hi doubled,

Unless Max has removed it there should be a dummy email further down the page and a couple of messages about the email being sent (or not).

If those aren't showing up then I'd guess that email isn't enabled for the form.

Bob
doubled 17 Feb, 2009
I know it is enabled because i replaced the existing email address with mine and it will work but if i change it back to the one i want it does not work.

Hi doubled,

Sorry, it's been a long day and I forgot the beginning of the thread by the end.

What's in the From Email field? I can think of no reason why ChronoForms or Joomla would discriminate between Email To addresses.

Bob
doubled 17 Feb, 2009
There is nothing in the field and the email is sent from my address to whoever i place in the To email blank in chrono.
GreyHead 17 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

Sorry, too many typos in my last message. I was asking about the From Email box.

If I understand correctly you have a fixed (not a Dynamic) From Email; if you put your own address in the To Email box then the email sends OK; if you put any other address in the To Email box the email isn't sent.

And there are no email diagnostics or dummy email showing on the form DeBug page.

This doesnt work
* Form passed first SPAM check OK
* Form passed the submissions limit (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the Image verification (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the server side validation (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the plugins step (if enabled) OK
* Emails data loaded OK
* Form passed all before email code evaluation OK
* An email has been SENT successfully from (Applicant)wanttogohere@domain.org to myaddress@domain.org
* Debug End
This does work

But if i would replace my address in the TO with somebody elses it would not work.
GreyHead 17 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

OK, so your ISP, like many others will only accept messages where the email address domain matches the site domain.

I recommend strongly - about three times a week - that the Dynamic From address field is never used. It causes more problems that it is worth.

Bob
doubled 17 Feb, 2009
I dont understand, what do i need to do so that it works.
GreyHead 17 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

Make the From Email address so that it always has 'someaddress@domain.org' in it.

Preferably replace the Dynamic From with a plain From.

Bob
doubled 17 Feb, 2009
It already is a static address in both fields.
GreyHead 17 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

. . . then use the address that works???? or am I still missing something here?

Bob
doubled 18 Feb, 2009
Mine does work but i am not the person that needs to receive the emails regarding the online applications.
GreyHead 18 Feb, 2009
Hi Doubled,

I no longer have any idea what works or doesn't work for you. I can only suggest that as ChronoForms is sending emails in some combinations that this is a problem that you should take up with your ISP.

Bob

Thank you for your help, this is very confusing but if anyone else has anything that can help i would apprectiate it. And if i need to explain the situation again i would be happy to.
GreyHead 18 Feb, 2009
Hi Doubled,

By all means explain it again - I've been through this thread four or five times today and end up very confused about whether the problem is about From or To addresses and which ones work and which ones don't. Each post seems clear enough on its own - but somehow they don't make sense taken together.

Bob
doubled 18 Feb, 2009
Alright i am going to give this a go and explain everything. doubled@domain.org is my address (which works) and i would like the applications to go to humanresources@domain.org (this does not work). When i use my address for the FROM and the TO everything works fine but if i add anybody else in the TO it does not work. This is also the same case for the FROM, in which if i were to send this from humanresources@domain.org it will not work.
GreyHead 19 Feb, 2009
Hi doubled,

Thanks for that - makes the problem clearer but is no help with a solution. I've never seen a setup before that was limited to a single email in and out.

If you like to pm or email me a superadmin logon then I'll take a look and see if I can spot anything.

Hi doubled,

whats the "from email" in your Joomla config area ? which mail method you are using ? PHPMailer or SMTP or.. ?

Which format should i be using.
nml375 24 Feb, 2009
Could you verify whether your sender's domain uses SPF (Sender Policy Framework)?
If so, your email server may not be permitted to send mails originating from that domain..
Max_admin 24 Feb, 2009
Hi,

try them all, and you should try nml375's idea too.

Cheers

Hi all,

I have a very similar problem but inverse:
- Joomla Admin Email: info@mydomain.com
- CF FromEmail: info@mydomain.com
- CF To: webmaster@mydomain.com

        * Form passed first SPAM check OK
        * Form passed the submissions limit (if enabled) OK
        * Form passed the Image verification (if enabled) OK
        * Form passed the server side validation (if enabled) OK
        * Form passed the plugins step (if enabled) OK
        * Emails data loaded OK
        * Form passed all before email code evaluation OK
        * An email has been SENT successfully from (company)info@mydomain.com to webmaster@mydomain.com
        * Debug End

But the mail never arrives...
But if I change the CF To: webmaster@mydomain.com to webmaster@gmail.com then it works.
It seems like every mail sent outside my domain work.
Email is hosted at Google Apps.

Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Hi carblanco,

This seems to be a Google feature. Are the two addresses distinct Gmail accounts? If they are both nicknames or aliases for the same account then I don't think that Gmail will send them as it thinks you are mailing to yourself.

Hi,

They are not nicknames or aliases for the same account.
In fact I can send mails from one to another.
So I must think that is a joomla issue or maybe a server issue.
What do you think?
GreyHead 25 Feb, 2009
Hi carblanco,

Anything is possible but I think it's pretty unlikely that it is a Joomla issue I don't think that there aren't any tests clever enough to know that the domains are the same. Could be server - but seems unlikely. :-(
