When i am trying to export excel backup then blank file is generated with 0kb,
when i am trying to open it gives error like "Unable to read file".

It's works with CSV backup..but not only in Excel.

The excel library used in the backup may not work on few servers due to the server config sometimes!

May be try to enable errors at your server or look at the error log for what happens when you do the excel backup which may help!

Try setting Error Reporting for your site to Maximum (in the Global Configuration |Server tab). That may give you some error messages. Warning: you may get an Excel file and find the messages inside the file looking very messy.

PS If this is a live site do this when the site is quiet and put the Error Reporting back when you are done as it may create messages on other pages too.
