Could not instantiate mail function.

ljk 01 Nov, 2021
Hi,

Just trying to get a simple contact form to work. When I submit the form, I get the message:
Could not instantiate mail function.

I have an email setup to go to the person that submits the form and they receive their email message.

The admin email has a recipient of info@domain.com. I have set the reply to address as the form email field and the reply to name as the form name field.

The global configuration has dale@domain.com as the From Name. Should that make any difference?

How do I add a bcc field to the Admin email?

Chronoforms 7.0.7, Joomla 3. 10.3

Thank you

Hi ljk,

It may be that the different From Email addresses in the Form and the Global Settings are causing the error. Please check this out by using the same address in both places (this depends on your email server, some are fussier than others).

As far as I can see you can add a bcc field using the basic Contact Form setup. You can with the Advanced Form setup. In the Email action click on Advanced Settings and the drop-down menu includes an Add cc/bcc emails setting.

Hi,

Thank you for your answers.

Unfortunately, changing the Admin from email address didn't help. I am still getting the same "Could not instantiate mail function."
I added a Debug action but all it shows for the Admin email is:
           [from_name] => Amuleta Computer Security
            [from_email] => xxxx@doamin.com
            [reply_name] => Laurelle
            [reply_email] => l_keashly@yahoo.com
            [result] => the Mail could not be sent.
            [var] => false
(Note I have removed the real email address in the from_email above, but it matches what is in the global configuration. I have tried it using both info@ and dale@ but neither is working)
The weird thing is that the user email is sent fine, it is just the admin email that is not sending.

I was trying to upload an image of the Admin settings, but I just get an error when I try to upload the image or a file.

But I don't see any Advanced settings in the Admin email section to set a BCC email address. Everything has changed so much since the last time that I used Chronoforms, this version seems to be less feature rich than v5 was.

Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Hi ljk,

I have no more suggestions about your admin email, sorry.

For the BCC please see the instructions in my previous post. You must have the form in Advanced mode (and not in the basic Contact form mode) to see the extra settings.

Hi Bob,

Ok, I switched the v7 form Type from Contact Form to Advanced form. Under the Forms settings there is Advanced Settings that has a drop down, but there is no BCC in the dropdown list. Only recaptcha, locales, ACL & external database.
When I look under the Admin Email section it hasn't changed from the Contact Form type settings, still no bcc or cc showed up. and I don't see any Actions button or advanced settings dropdown.

Not sure what I am missing.

Thank you

Hi ljk,

I have just experimented. If you change a Contact Form to an Advanced form you have to save, close and reopen the form to see all the options. There is still no CC/BCC option for the default Admin Email but you can switch to the Actions View, then add a new Email action and that will have the Advanced Settings option that I described earlier.
