Spreadsheet Save action doesn't work sometimes

underground1 18 Jan, 2019
Hello,
I've been using the Spreadsheet Save action for about 3 years now without a problem. Just a few weeks ago, I realised that some form submissions from my website weren't saved into the Spreadsheet (I was able to double check this because I did receive confirmation emails and the email action comes AFTER the Spreadsheet Save action in the CF settings). From 34 form submissions, 9 did not register in the Spreadsheet. Luckily, I was able to catch this in time but since I rely on this service to work properly (I have no time to always double check all submissions), I wanted to ask you if you also encountered any glitches with this action and if you can suggest me how I could test it even further to see what could have gone wrong. Namely, I have already tried to submit the form from different computers and (all major) browsers and was able to successfully submit and register all (9) participants that initially weren't recorded in the Spreadsheet. I did a debug but it only says that my worksheet cannot be found (even though it is there, the name is OK, it is saving just fine but at some point - no more - and after a while, it saves again. I don't get it.) I have no clue on how I could even start to investigate this so I would really appreciate your input...
Thank you so much.

Hi underground1,

Sorry, I haven't seen this reported before and have no immediate suggestions. It sounds as though there is an occasional connection failure with the Google Spreadsheet.

I suggest that, as backup, you save save the submitted data to a database table. I guess that it is probably possible to check somehow to see which records are in the Spreadsheet and re-save any that are missing but I've never tried to do that.

Bob, hi.
I get an email for every submission and this is how I can keep track and add these entries manually (but this defeats the purpose) - I have contacted Google Support to see if they have an answer to that. In the mean time - if you think of anything, I'd be happy to hear itπŸ™‚

Hi underground1,

I was just thinking that if you had the records in a table you could use a cron job to run a form event to add any missing records. Not ideal but should work if there is no fix to be found.

It might be worth looking at the debugger output for a failed save (easier said than done) to see if there is anything there that will show the failure.
