Chronoforms refusing to validate and processing with errors

richarddhill 19 May, 2017
Hi,

Since transferring from a test site to a live site, Chronoforms has refused to validate, when it worked fine on the test server. (NB yes, I have changed the key or at least tried to)

We are also getting an error message when a form is submitting (related to the limited no of variables available?), although the form does process.

This was originally developed on Chronoforms V5 although we have now installed V6 - which gives the same problem.

On installing V6 the error refined itself to say that CURL was not available. CURL is available and working on the site.

Joomla version 3.7.1
PHP 7.01
website with issue www.johnwestonstretton.org.uk

Help please. This is driving us to distraction.

Best wishes

Hi Richard.

What exactly is the error message that you are getting?

Hi Richard,

There was a problem with our server earlier and that caused some validations to fail, please try again and check if it still fails ?

Do you have the latest v6 update installed ?

The message regarding the number of variables is server related.

Hi,

OK I will first suggest what may be the problem and then answer the questions.

The validation lists wwwjohnwestonstretton.org.uk,, so I am wondering, before I do anything else, whether I have typo'd an error, or whether I should have listed johnwestonstretton.org.uk (no prefixes) and this would resolve all our problems.

If this is the case, what is the procedure for correcting the problem?

If this has no effect, the error message comes on processing the form, which declares the the Captcha is incorrect, even though it processes the forms correctly.

In answer to "admin", the forms are developed on Chronoforms 5.

We can't redevelop the forms on Chronoforms 6 as it will not process beyond a limited number of variables (the jump from V5 to V6 in terms of design is not always easy and some things are harder to figure out on the update). These are multiple page forms and take a lot of time to write and test. Once the validation works and we can clear the error messages, we will update to V6 (Can I suggest you create a way that V6 will link back to previous versions?)

Anyway, thanks for your help so far.

Best wishes

Hi Richard,

I have fixed the domain typo and the validation should work now, please test it, but please use the contact form for validation questions/issues in general.

For the captcha issue, please post a screenshot of the form setup where you have the "check captcha" action.

You can import v5 forms into v6 but only the designer section will be imported and not 100%, the variables limit is actually a server limit, you can tune your server to accept more variables.

Thank you for fixing the first problem. And sorry for sending the request to the wrong place.

I attach screenshots of two separate forms which are giving trouble - or at least of the error messages that are being generated.

Incidentally, one form - the expressions of interest - does not give any problems but works perfectly, so it may be our inexperience with Chronoforms which is causing the problem.

As for changing variables, I increased the max_input_vars PHP setting to 2000 which made no difference, so I would welcome some guide on the specific variable count we should be tweaking.

Many thanks for your patience

Best wishes

Hi Richard,

Please post a screenshot for the "setup" section on both forms to make sure that the forms are setup correctly.

Also what is the session time limit on your website ?

Hi Richard,

Does changing the max_input_vars update the "Max vars" number at the top right corner in Chronoforms admin ?

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in coming back.

The answer to the second question is no, it made no difference (though I can see that it ought to).

I will post a screenshot to reply to the first reply shortly.

Kind Regards

Hi,

I have taken the shorter of the two forms that produce the error message, as the other is so long that it would be impossible to screenshot, but this is one of the forms that fails.

The screen shots are the Designer and the Setup tabs. I hope this is what you needed

Session time on the site is 15 mins

Thanks again for your help

Hi Richard,

And what are the questions list in the "Load security question" ?

Did you test this form using the "View form" link in the forms manager ? does it show the same problem ?

Hi Max,

Thanks for the reply.

We have tried all sorts of security questions, but at the moment it is set to number addition

And yes, we have tested using the "View form" link and it works perfectly.

And just to confirm - on the front end it does process the form, it just produces the error message as it does so.

Best wishes

Hi Richard,

if the form works fine using the view form link then it may be a caching problem, are you able to use a menu item of type Chronoforms to point to the form or disable the cache and test if this fixes the problem ?

Also some Joomla plugins may process the joomla content and reset the form session key, that would not be a problem if the form is loaded through a menu item.

Hi Max,

Making a separate menu item works in the front end

For better page set up and display we are using the forms in modules. I should add my previous comment that all the forms are in modules, which makes it all the more strange that one works, the other two do not?

They all work in test mode and deliver their appropriate end message.

Best wishes

Hi Richard,

"They all work in test mode", what is the test mode ? a test website you mean ?

All modules are loaded on all pages ? if yes then the one which works is the last one ?

Hi Max,

I did not explain clearly.

1. All the forms work in the administrator area when we use the test (preview) settings, but only one of them works on live pages (front end)

2. We are using the Regular Labs extension "Modules Anywhere" to add the forms to K2 articles, a process we have used in many sites.

3. I am not sure what you mean by the "last one". There is only one form per page, not several forms on the page. The contact us form does not work. The grant application form does not work, but the "expressions of interest form does". I repeat. Each of those forms is on a different web page.

I hope this explains the situation.

We have installed JQuery Easy just in case it was a JQuery conflict, but in this case, it made no difference.

Best wishes

Hi Richard,

This may be a problem with SEF URLs and the forms are not submitting. Please see this FAQ

Hi,

We have resolved this by setting the Ajax value to "yes" on Chronoforms V6
Chronoforms 5 still will not work even if we make this change.

Not a good solution but we are rewriting all the forms in Chronoforms 6

Thanks for everyones' suggestions, but there has to be an easier way to get to resolving bugs than this.

Hi Richard,

You may also try to use the shortcode below in the "Action url" setting in v6:
