captcha stopped functioning

I have a joomla site 3.7.0 that I have a 'contact us' form on. The form has been working for years! Now the captcha is giving the message "You have entered a wrong verification code!" I haven't made any changes to the settings or the form, so I'm perplexed as to what to do to fix this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have no idea - clearly something has changed. Please post a link to the form so I can take a quick look.

Hi pcoaching,

I don't see anything obvious from the front-end - the data, including the Captcha, is being submitted correctly and then I get the error message.

By all means PM me a SuperAdmin login and I'll take a quick look at the back-end too see if I can spot anything there.

To add to the mystery or hopefully the clarity: the contact form works in Safari, does not work in Chrome or Firefox.
