Found the solution in another topic!
The solution is described here: https://www.chronoengine.com/faqs/70-cfv5/5272-chronoforms-v5-with-joomla-3-5-and-php-7.html
I downloaded the admin template Isis3 from GitHub: https://github.com/asika32764/joomla-bootstrap3-isis-template and it worked like a charm!

Dear Adrian, Dear Bob,
thank you very much for this. I was desperated as I could not open any of my forms in the backend... and the problem occured on different sites.
BUT, I would like to state that this problem obviously is not limited to php 7.
I am using php 5.6 and everything worked fine until I updated jommla to 3.5.0 (and, but this seems to be unrelated to the problem, also chronoforms to 5.0.11).
So, I would suppose that many chronoforms-user will face this problem within the near future...
thanks again and all the best

Hi Adrian,
You are correct, when I first wrote the FAQ it was from testing Joomla! 3.5 beta with PHP 7. Max has fixed the PHP 7 problems we've found so far in the latest releases; there are still some problems with the Isis template in Joomla! 3.5 with all PHP versions and the FAQ has suggestions for that.
There have been a 20-30 posts here on this in the last couple of weeks.
