Email comes in Spam box, use Google as SMTP

huubs 19 Mar, 2018
Hello,

Is it possible to use Chronoforms with the Google SMTP server? Because in @hotmail addresses, the email comes in the spam box. I hope with using the Google SMTP server this issue resolves.

I tried using the following tutorial but that didn't work:

https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_I_use_Gmail_as_my_mail_server%3F

Is there something I'm missing?

*FYI: I checked for OpenSSL, that is running. I checked for 2FA, that is not activated. So I should just use the normal password method to login, but that is not working.

I was still running an older version of Chronoforms, v4. I'm gonna update it and report back if that is the solution.

Didnt work. I get the following message:
  • Mailer Error: SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshootin

I checked for Google settings, and these settings are ok, I have the lesser safe apps toggle on ON so that should work.

Hi huubs ,

I use the GMail with all versions of CF with no problems.

Do you have your site Email settings configured to use GMail? If so, does the Test Email button send an email OK?

Hello,

Hmm, okay well that is good to hear. I'd like to implement it as well.

Yeah I did, but when I press the button nothing happens, probably the same as Chronoforms but it doesn't display anything it just stops doing anything.

Hi Huubs,

If the Test Email isn't working then there is something wrong with the Site Email settings.

But the Test email button works if I use the PHP Mailer function, it seems that it's related with the SMTP.

Can you explain what you did?

I tried almost everything now and it seems that the SMTP is just not working with Gmail. I have added the less secure apps, and i dont have 2 factor aunthetication activated.

Could it be something with my server?

Answer
I found the solution. It was a server setting in my firewall that was blocked. Thanks everyone for the help!
