Emails not always being sent to the "To" address

yaxo 21 Mar, 2015
I have some strange problems with several different forms at different sites which I haven't been able to sort out. Couldn't find a suitable answer in the forum for this either.

The problem is that the mail set as receiver of the form, at the first slide "Basic" under "To" doesn't always receive the email.
I cannot find any problem and the one email (another email) that is set as sender in the form receives the confirmation and if I setup another mail as eg. BCC, the email is also being recieved to that address.
The same thing is appearing on three different sites, and with several different forms and different emails in the "To" email and on different hosts.

This problem was already in version 4 of chronoforms and now I see that the problem persists. The emails cannot be found in the spam folders for the receiver either. When I set the same email address in BCC or CC as the one in "To" the emails are being received to the email.

And as I put in the headline, sometimes the emails are being sent correctly, and sometimes not. Sometimes it works if I put the email as "Dynamic to" instead of "To", but not always.
If I set same email that I put in "To" in "BCC" or "CC" also I can get it to work and the emails are being received, hopefully that will continue to work, that is my solution for now.

I have debugged and debugged again and even when the emails are not being received by the email in "To", the debugger are giving me information of the email being sent to that address, and the emails are being received for all emails set up, except the one in "To".

Hi Anna,

Hard to say, I don't think that there is anything special about the To email settings that make them different from the CC or BCC ones. Nor have I seen any other reports of problems just with the To email.

It does seem most likely that something is happening after the email leaves Joomla! The most common one that I have seen is when the To and From emails are the same and the mail is then automatically dropped.

There is not being a problem with "To" and "From" address being the same, that is checked, so that is not it.

I also think that there is a problem after the mails has been sent from joomla. But since there are several different hosts and emailservers involved I thought I may ask if there is something obvious I'm missing or if someone else is having this problem.

And since the emails are being received when the same email adresses is set in BCC or CC (as in "To"), I also thought it is something with some special considerations with the "To" field.

Hi Anna,

I've had a quick look through the Mailer code and can't see anywhere obvious that the To values are treated differently. I don't have any useful suggestions here except to check the saved records from time to time to see if there are any patterns you can spot about what is delivered.
