Honeypot not working

IGJ 19 Nov, 2014
Hi

I have installede Chronoforms V5 on my site for testing it out. I have made a very simple form with checkboxses.
I have also put in the honeypot feature. The honeypot is set to 5 sec.

So if the form is submitted under 5 sec it will give an error. The problem is though that it also gives an error even though it takes more than 5 sec to fill out the blanks.

Have I done something wrong in the setup.

If you want a link to the form I can send it to you personally.

Regards
Ivan

Hi Max

By session life time do you mean the honeypot ? if you do, thats set to 5 sec.

I have enabled cache on my site yes.

Ok, please try to disable the cache temporarily, then test the form using the "View form" link in the forms manager, or the "test form" button.

The session lifetime is defined in the Joomla global config.

Hi Max

If I disable the cache, the forms get thru fine even it is under the 5 seconds set in the honeypot. No debug report either.

The sessionlifetime was set for cache and Joomla is set to 15 min.

Hi Max

If i'm using the test form it is going right thru, even if it takes under 5 sec. If i'm using the view form i get an error like the one i posted earlier.

And the cache is all disabled.

Hi Ivan,

Please try to set the "Relative url" to "no" under the "HTML" action settings ?

Also, please try to use Captcha instead, if you get the same troubles then its something with your site sessions, if not then that should provide a solution and you can test this again after the next update, since its working fine here.

Hi Max

I just tried what you wrote, but with noo luck at all. Still the form get thru even under 5 sec.

Making the relative url to no, didnt do the trick. Also not using the Captcha, the Catpchadidnt even get shown. So I tried the Recaptcha that didnt show either, maybe its me doing soemthing wrong with them, but I followed the instrution when i hovered over the captchas so it should work.

Don't now whats wrong. You are saying its the sessions. But what more can be done. I think we have been all thru. Cache, Captcha, Recaptcha and the realtiv url.

Can you make a backup of your form and send it to me, because if it works with you maybe there are some settings thats not set up properly on my end.

Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Please install the latest v5 update and check the demo forms included, few of them have the captcha, so you can check this, if it doesn't work then its something on your site, but please let me know!

Hi Max

I have already the newest chronoform installed. I have tried the demo, with the captcha, but it doesnt look nice, and people don't like captcha.

It's much better looking without the captcha and the Honeypot activated instead :-)

What could be wrong? should I send a private message to you with an backup of the form?

Hi Ivan,

First, I want you to test the demo form and check if the captcha "works" ? I mean, does it work when you enter a correct code, and returns an error when the code is wrong ?

If it does then you can create a new form with only the honeypot and test it, you can also attach the backup of this form here!

Please try to drag the "load honeypot" above the "HTML" action.
