User permissions don't work

Akhanto 13 Aug, 2014
Hello everyone,
after hundreds of years using "Kunena" I choosed Chronoforums as my new forum software.
Unfortenately the user groups don't work.. When I allow the public group something everyone can do it and if I deny the public group something nobody can do it (for example writing a new topic). If I follow the advice not to use "deny" but use "not set" it works the same way like "allow" so everyone can do this.

I hope I could explain it halfways good..

Thanks
Akhanto

Hello Max,
thanks for the quick reply!
I think I followed those instructions correctly..
I attached a picture with the current configuration please say what's wrong there.
With this setting everyone can create a new topic even if I deny it in the Forums manager.

Thanks!

The forums manager permissions are not active unless you enable the "forums permissions" setting under the "Settings" area, I suggest that you keep it OFF for now.

With your current config, it looks like everybody is going to be able to create new topics except guests and "registered" users only.

So what's wrong ?

The problem is that i can't set "forum permissions" on. When I try to save it says "successfully saved" but it's still off.
Max_admin 14 Aug, 2014
Just keep it OFF!

What about other settings, can you save them ?

I just tried to reinstall the whole forum. It didn't help I'm still not able to change any setting.
Could you say where the configuration file is saved so i could try to change it manually?

Thanks
Max_admin 19 Aug, 2014
I have just checked it, sorry for the delay!

I'm not sure why this happens, but could you please check your Joomla "system information" (or upgrade my account so I can check it), do you have the "suhosin" module installed ? and what's the "max_input_vars" setting value in PHP config ?

Max

It looks like the first time you saved the settings, you had a huge chunk of style into the "global css" box, this broke something, although I'm still not sure where the crack happened, after deleting all records in the settings table, it looks to be saving well now.

If you have the same chunk of CSS then please try to save it again and check if the problem reoccurs ? also please send it to me by email, into a .txt file!

Hi,
now it seems to work. At least I can change the configuration. I attached the css I tried to save.
Akhanto 20 Aug, 2014
Good news: now everything works properly!
Thank you Max!!!!

Just tried your CSS here and it didn't cause any problems, did you try to store it again ? did it cause any issues ?

You had some google files references in the faulty database record as I can remember, so I thought that was the CSS section.

I didn't try it again because I uploaded a whole custom css file and changed the reference in the .php.
I don't like to say it but I have again some trouble.. My current setting for public is "not set" everywhere. With this configuration Guests still are able to create new topics. Even though i get an SQL Error
1062 - Duplicate entry '0' for key 'PRIMARY' SQL=INSERT INTO `kqzfo_chronoengine_forums_users_profiles` (`user_id`, `topic_count`, `post_count`) values ('0', '1', '1');
the topic is saved...

Are you sure that you have the latest update ? RC2 I mean, because this bug was solved before.

If not then the new update is supposed to be available in the next few hours, so just wait and test it when its ready!

I don't get an error but it's still possible for guests to create topics.
Is it right that "not set" means denied? If not how can I deny something for parental groups?
Max_admin 22 Aug, 2014
The permissions section has some information about this now, please check it.

However, the permissions system was not changed, so your configuration must have some problem, please start a new topic and I will list some points to check which may help!
