Migration to V5

Hello. Joomla 3 user here. What will be the process be for migration of V4 to V5 of Chronoforms?

Hi Hpinson,

If you are uprading an existing site then you can stay with CFv4, It runs on Joomla! 3 with no problems.

If you are starting a new site than I'd suggest that you switch to CFV5. You can also run both versions together if necessary.

There is an experimental upgrader that will restore CFv4 backups into CFv5 but it has limited value and can not be relied on especially if you have complex forms.

Thanks for the clarification. I love you product and your great support of it, but think you really need to consider the migration issue in terms of long-term use of the product. In the past we have used Chronoforms heavily but the migration (of 60 or so simple and complex forms) from version 2 to 3 was so onerous and time consuming (almost a complete redo), that Chronoforms has proved to be an expensive solution. We may have been better off just doing wrapped html/php forms - which would have cost some more up-front but would have had some life going forward.

Maybe I am missing something, but I have to decide weather to continue with the product or not -- and if it is going to cause a boatload of work down the road because you are proactive in developing new versions, but there is no reliable form migration path between versions - that is a big issue.

Hi hpinson,

I agree with you . . . and that is a question for Max, not one that I can start to answer.
