Language sensitive forums

drnappalm@hotmail.com 19 Nov, 2013
Hello,

I'm trying to set up a forum for a multilanguage website and want to have different categories and forums for the different languages.

Is there a way of doing this?

I've created different user groups for the different languages but I have a problem for the "public" users as they are able to see all the public forums from all the languages and I only want them to see categories and forums in their own language.

Thanks in advance.
BR.

Hello,

Th problem is how to detect a guest/public language ? and search engines are treated as guests I think, so you wouldn't want to block their access to your forums too.

If you can find some Joomla extension or plugin to detect the public user language and set it as a user group then your problem is solved!

Hi!

Thanks for the response.
I was thinking on doing it the way joomla does it with the Modules/Menus/Articles, etc...you can set the languages or language you want the item to be visible for and jommla deals with the rest as the user's language or at least the language of its system is known by joomla.

Of course I don't want the forum to be block for the search engines but the use of the forums only makes sense if I focus on the language of the user.

If this is not possible with choronoforums then I will implement it myself (for me it makes sense). If you are interested I could send you the changes so that you can merge them in your code base for future releases.

Jander.

Hi Jander,

If you mean to switch forums based on the active website language detected by Joomla or set by the user then this is not hard to do, I have added this feature to the todo list, you can keep in touch with me about the progress through the "Contact us" page.

HI Max,

Tested the last chronoforum version. Initially i had the same issue than dosdassign ("" new categories in categories manager tab and the 3 buttons "APPLY", "SAVE" & "CANCEL" are not working""). As it was going well on a virgin joomla3.2 installation i though initially for a conflict on live site and spent some time to figure out why !!! . But indeed linked to the editor. (Should have asked before ....)

Amazing and seems to work very well. Congratulation for the work.
