Email [GH] action not working

JoeKMT 16 Oct, 2012
Hello,
I'm using version 4.0RC3.5.1 with Joomla 1.5.26, you have now combined the Static and Dynamic emails. I have tried using {name} in the From Name and {email} in the From Email. But all I get in the email From is {name} and not the Dynamic result. I am including a screen capture of how I have the Email 1 set-up.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi JoeKMT,

From the Help tab:

The one special case is the From Email box which will only accept a valid email address. Using a dynamic From Email address is the most frequent cause of failed emails. Use a dynamic Reply To Name and Reply To Email to make it easy to reply to the form submitter. Note: If you are an experienced user and you need to use the dynamic From Email box you can enable the curly brackets by adding ##OK## to the box.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I still have some questions. My client really needs to have a dynamic From Name. He gets dozens of forms each day and they all say Handmade Growler he needs to see who they are from. He gets phone calls from buyers who then fill out the Request Free Quote with the information they need to send in and now my client has to open each email looking for that name of the buyer. It's really adding a lot of time to his day he doesn't have.

Also in your post it says From the Help tab:, what help tab?

And, I have tried adding to the From Email box, ##OK## {email} or {email} ##OK## or ##OK## and it doesn't work. Am I putting it in the wrong box? Am I to add it to the code? I'm not getting this.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Joe,

I rand a check, I have found a small bug but otherwise it runs OK. The bug left the ##OK## in the email address but didn't stop the email sending. I've updated the release and send you a copy by PM.

I checked all variants ##OK##{email} ##OK## {email} {email}##OK## and {email} ##OK## - they all appear to work OK.

It may be that you have an older version of the action. The Help Tab and What's New have been included for a few months now and the content of the Help Tab is also on my site here though I see a couple of the latest small updates aren't there.

If updating to the latest version doesn't fix the problem than maybe your mailserver requires that the From Email address matches the site domain, that's not uncommon as a spam protection. In that case you should use the Reply To address which is intended to cover this case.

Hi Bob,
Thank you again for your help but something just isn't right. I'm not seeing the same tabs that your are. Just a reminder this is a Joomla 1.5.26 install using ChronoForms 4.0 RC3.5.1, I'm attaching another screen shot so you can see what I see. I did install the Email [GH] Action. Looks like it added a Dynamic To. I need a Dynamic From and Dynamic Email.

Thank You,

Joe

Hi Joe,

It should still work OK but you need to switch the Wizard to Normal/Advanced (there's no difference) to see the Actions tab. You can't reliably go back to the Easy Wizard afterwards though.
