Hi i'm a new Joomla user and i need to build an enrollment form and store the information in a database. I've stumbled upon Chronoforms and it seems perfect.
However, i've had trouble installing this component. I followed the tutorial and still no luck.
I'm running Joomla 1.5 off local host.
To install this I went to Installers -> Components -> Browsed the zip file and pressed upload and install
However this is the error i'm getting:
ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.
I've also tried to unzip the file and 'install by directory' but still no luck.
Please help !

Hi Paradigm,
That's odd, open the zip file and check that the xml file is there (I guess it could have dropped out somewhere).
If that all looks OK then you can try copying the files up to an installation directory and use the 'Install from Directory' option.
Please also check that you do have the RC3.1 version for Joomla 1.5 and not the Joomla 1.0.x version as this does have a different folder structure.

Paradigm,
This is a relatively common error with Joomla itself that can also be caused by incorrect permission settings.
If you're using linux, make sure you either have Joomla's FTP layer enabled and set up correctly, or that your Joomla directorys are chmodded 0777.

I am running on Windows platform and i've downloaded the correct Chronoform for Joomla 1.5.
Also checked that the XML file is in the zip.
I'm logged in as ADMIN and there are currently no other user accounts setup.
I've also tried to install from directory by extracting all the files into a folder.
The error i get is:
Installation file not found:
C:\Documents and Settings\marine_red\Desktop\chrono\
Any other ideas to install chrono forms?<br><br>Post edited by: Paradigm, at: 2008/04/20 11:35

Hi Paradigm,
This does seem to be a fairly common Joomla problem with an error message that isn't always helpful! It can arise from folder permission settings, from the inability to open the zip file, from mismatched names, and from a missing or damaged xml file.
Can you install other extensions without difficulty?
Please delete both the components/chronoforms and administrator/components/chronoforms folders and retry the manual install - but using a folder on your website (not on your desktop). That is under 'htdocs/joomla', or something similar, if you are using xammp.

Hi Please help
I have uninstalled my demo and installed V2.5 J1.5 RC3.1 licensed zip - No problems
Then I tried the cronocontact.html V3.0 stable patch.zip and got the following error
JInstaller::install: There is already a folder called '/var/www/vhosts/mysanumber.co.za/httpdocs/plugins/content/chronocontact.php'. Please initially check whether:
• the Extension is already installed
• the file names in the XML file are spelled correctly
• there are no XML files listed inside the extension.xml file
• all of the files (not including XML files) are correctly listed in the extension.xml file and there are no duplicate entries
• there is an empty folder listed from a previous installation attempt
I actuallay have no idea what i'm doing!! and i'm totally new to this. Can work with a template in wysiwig but have no idea about backend files, php code, scrips, forms and all that jargon you clever guys use. Please help!!

Hi myvbiz,
It sounds as though you haven't got any forms set up so I suggest that you uninstall ChronoForms completely - check that the administrator/components/com_chronocontact and components/com_chronocontact are deleted and all chrono_... tables are dropped from the database.
Then download and re-install v3.0 stable from the site here and all should be well.
I'm not sure what the patch file does - it may be a patch for licensed users, or a bug-fix patch. In either case it may not work if you use it to patch and earlier version.

Hi Bob
Thanks for the quick response. I have uninstalled and droped the database. The question now is what to install?
I had CronoForms_v3.0 Stable working on my site. Then I paid for the license and you guys mailed me all these files
ChronoForms bot 0.6 J1.5 licensed.zip
ChronoForms bot v.06 licensed.zip
ChronoForms v2.5 J1.5 RC3.1 licensed.zip
ChronoContact.html V3.0 Stable Patch.zip
Where do I start? Which one first?

Hi myvbiz,
Sorry, Max deals with all the files and I've no idea what's in that packet.
I'm sure Max will update you when he reads this - if you can't wait then download and install v3.0 Stable from here (as far as I know that is the most up to date version). We can easily tell you how to update that to the licensed version.
