Double opt in / email verification on signup

ken.wood 14 Apr, 2008
Hi guys,

I am building a form for people to sign up to a mailing list, using "double opt in" which is considered best practice for email lists. I am running Joomla 1.5.2.

For those who don't know, this is the 2-step signup process where you enter your email address, the website emails you a link which you have to click on to access the rest of the form.

I'm thinking that this seems like such a common requirement that surely someone has done it already and could show their code as an example?

It would be a big time saver for me, since I am new to Chrono forms and am not a strong PHP programmer.

In fact, the registration process for these very forums uses double opt in. If the webmaster for this site was willing to share the code for the forum registration form, that would make an ideal example.

I apologise in advance if this question is answered elsewhere. I have had a thorough look through the site and these forums and if the answer is here I couldn't find it.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

The forums here works for logged in users only, so when you try to post it asks you to register to the site, and to register, you must get a confirmation email, so, you can make your form for registered, and enable "email confirmation" for user registration!

Please let me know if this was helpful enough ?

Cheers

Hi Ken,

Just adding to Max's reply - the forums here use the built in Joomla Registration which has double-opt in as an option (you can turn the activation email on and off in the site configuration).

You could get the same effect by building your own code (or copying chunks of the Joomla code) but that's rarely worthwhile.
