Styling email using css

Chris Blair 30 Nov, 2010
Dear All,
I am in the final stages of completing my form(s) and wish to style the email(s) template(s) using css. I gave this a go by adding the <style type="text/css"></style> tags before the actual layout/content of the email but cf comments these out. Am I doing this the wrong way? Do the styles need to be inline? Or, is what I am trying to do unachievable? My guess would be yes, yes and no. Aside from styling the textual content I need to create a specific layout in the email template using divs. Any pointers hugely appreciated.

TIA & Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

Some mail readers won't use CSS styles other than in-line so doing that is safer.

To add specific styles in the Email template box you'll need to turn the Rich Text Editor off in the Email Setup Properties box. You then get a plain textarea which won't mess with your CSS (or PHP).

Hi Bob,
Many thanks for the input, I will get to work on that basis. You are a gentleman!
