Upgrade from 3.0 stable to latest version.

coendeurloo 09 Sep, 2009
I have a question regarding upgrading from 3.0 stable to the latest version. I will probably have to uninstall the current version, and then install the new version, since 3.0 is so 'old'...

My question is: will I lose my currently created form? It took me quite some time to create and I do not want to lose it.

Hi coendeurloo,

Backup the form and, for good measure, backup all the 'chrono. . .' tables from the database.

Uninstall ChronoForms and reinstall the new version. The backup copy won't restore, but if you open the backup file in a text editor you'll find that all the key entries are there and you can copy and paste them over into a new form. DeBug, and tidy up and you should be done in 15-20 minutes from start to finish.

It it's a live site then I'd recommend creating a development Joomla installation and doing the upgrade and debugging of the form on there first. Then you can save and restore the new version onto the live site.

I've seen reports here that you can also do the upgrade by restoring into the database but I haven't tried this and can't comment.

so... just to be clear - upgrading from 3.0 Stable to the current version (3.1 RC 5.5 at this time) will necessitate re-creating the forms from the text files - the "Restore" function won't work?

:( we have over 50 forms... this will take hours...

thanks

Hi Rod,

I think **not tested** that if you do an installation of the latest release on a test site; check the jos_chronocontact table structure and amend a copy of your old table to match then you should be in with a chance of short-cutting some of this.

I don't know (or don't remember) exactly what changes Max made between those two releases. But I'm pretty certain that nothing changed in e.g the Form HTML column.
