Have I lost my form?

cousinjay 06 Sep, 2009
In the process of editing my form (through the wizard edit) I hit the enter key by mistake. Possibly I held it down, or pressed it tight, because the net result was my form got saved with no name. The data base is still intact, but I am unable to access the form in any way, shape or form. Short of rebuilding from scratch is there any way to recover this lost form>

Fortunately, the form is not so complex that it can't be rebuilt in a fairly short period of time, but in case it happens again, I'd like to know my options.

Hi cousinjay,

I don't know how to do that :-(

The quickest fix is probably to go into PHPMyAdmin, open the record in jos_chronocontact and add something to the name column.

Did it again. Some people don't learn from their mistakes.

At least this time I know EXACTLY what I did to cause it. I was typing into the label field and pressed enter. That's the exact point where it happened.

I'm a programmer from the old days but I haven't written much code of any kind since the very earliest Visual Basic. (using DOS 6), so I'm not really crazy about learning to write html. I might not have any choice.

I will try to locate phpmyadmin and see if I can make sense out of it.

Thanks.

By the way, Attention developers: Does this qualify as a bug? if so, it needs to be fixed. If it's not a bug, but a simple IO error (Idiot Operator) then can it be trapped?

Hi cousinjay,

Which version of ChronoForms do you have? And which browser?

I just tested the latest release in FirFox and hitting Enter in a label field does absolutely nothing as far as I can tell.

There was an earlier release where the 'submit' button was 'live' and that could have the effect you describe - but it was fixed several releases ago and hasn't been mentioned as a problem here for quite a while.

I'm using 3.1RC5. Fresh install. Just downloaded it yesterday.

Hi cousinjay,

And your browser?

Bob

Google Chrome, and Windows 7 (if it makes any difference)

The good news is that I have discovered the backup and restore forms buttons. 😀

Hi cousinjay,

Thanks - I can replicate the problem in Chromium :-(

The fix is to select the form checkbox and then click the Edit icon in the toolbar, the form re-opens Ok and you anc add a name.

That worked fine to restore the form name, but when I tried to open it with the wizard edit, I got a message saying "this form not created by the wizard. Also when I click on the link to open the form, it's empty.

Hi cousinjay,

Understood. Hopefully Max will find a fix for a future release.
