Installing through FTP

Topdim 20 Mar, 2009
The problem i am facing is that i cannot install chronoforms with the usual way-meaning through the cp of Joomla and by using the install/uninstall extension feature and that because my web hoster has made that impossible for safety reasons.
As a result what is left to do is to install it manually through FTP.
Does anyone know how can i do that?
What are the steps to install the chronoforms component using this way?

Any help will be appreciated since i want to do that for my job

Hi Topdim,

1) You can do a manual installation - see this post for a link to a video tutorial

2) Change hosts

In the end from what it seems i will change host.

But i still i want to tell you about the results of my attempt after i followed the directions of the tutorial so i can hear your oppinion.

The message i got is Please enter a package directory.

First i uploaded chronoforms unzipped in the server and i entered the path i placed chronoforms in the install from dir option in the install/uninstall extension feature of joomla.

The path i entered more specifically was /portal/administrator/components/com_installer/ChronoForms_V3.0_Stable

What else could be the cause except safety precautions taken from the hoster?

I just want to be certain before moving in another hoster.

Hi Topdim,

if you cant install ANY joomla extensions because of that then I'm sure that you will find alot of ideas about this at the official Joomla forums http://forum.joomla.org/

I'm facing the same problem here. My server times out when I try to install CF through the backend of my Joomla! site. I took a look at the video tutorial about installing CF, but I couldn't get it working that way. Could you please tell how I can manually install CF? Your help is really appreciated!

Hi Franklin,

The video link below *is* the way to do a manual installation. If that doesn't work then most likely you have some serious problems with your site setup.

Bob

PS I guess that it is theoretically possible to create all the tables by hand, the code for the ChronoForms tables is in the XML file, then you'd have to create a new record in the jos_components table by copying and editing one of the existing ones.

Hi guys. Thanks for the heads up - I placed the content of the unpacked folder to a folder on my root-path. Second step I made was to install the component through the backend, using the "Install from folder"-option and it works great! Again, big thumbs up for the support.

The only problem I'm facing right now is that, whenever I have saved a form that I made using the Form Wizard, it's not possible to open it again in the Form Wizard to edit it. I probably have to look more into the documentation, but if anyone knows how to edit a saved form, I'd be delighted.😀 Excuse me for gong off-topic...

Hi Franklin,

Use the Wizard Edit icon on the Forms Manager toobar to re-edit a form created with the Wizard.

NOTE: You will lose any manual edits you have made if you do this.

Dear Bob,

Thank you for the quick replies. I looked at the Forms Manager Toolbar, but I can;t locate the Wizard Edit Icon. I uploaded a screenshot to show you what I'm looking at. Can you help me out once more? 😀

You need to have V3.1 to be able to do this, I think you have V3.0, it didn't have this feature!
