Just a little bit lost...

form673 19 Feb, 2009
Hi,

I am a complete Joomla newbie and I have made a test Form and whilst in the debug format everything seems to work well, shows up on a page etc. So my question is:

How, after having created my form do I place it on a page and from a link of sorts?
Do I use Menu creator if I have the Module installed?

I have been able to get it on either the left or right side of my page but I want it on a dedicated page.

Is there a simple way or am I missing something?

thanks in advance

Hi form673,

If you just want the form on a page then you can create a Joomla menu item of type ChronoContact in the Joomla Menu Mananger and enter the form name in the parameter box on the right hand side.

Thanks Bob.
If I use this function then I don't need to use the answer page or indeed the menu creator in the Wizard? Is this so?

BTW Is there a tutorial for the complete novice?

thanks in advance

Hi George,

I'm not sure what the 'answer page' is? The Menu Creator/Remover in the Admin are something different

This page is to help you add a menu link to the admin components menu to take you directly to the "show saved data" of some form you choose

- though an earlier version a year or so back did have a Front-end menu creator that has long since been dropped.

The best tutorials we have are in the Download area here - I do add a new one every so often; the problem is that when the forums get busy it takes up time that could be used for more Tutorials - and then Max adds new features . . . and there is no tutorial for menu creation (though I've posted about it a couple of times so it should be somewhere in the forums - try Advanced Search for 'menu' with author GreyHead).

Hi George,

I have read your first post, here is the simplest way to have the form in a dedicated page:

from the admin area :

Menus > Main menu > New > Chrono Forms > Type the menu title and add the form name at the right side! > Save!

Thanks Max.

Can I say that the latest beta is just a little bit flaky? Sometimes things work other times not. It is hard to tell what's me or the app.
In any case, I have now managed to get a form up and placed in on a page etc BUT the fields aren't showing up.
See attached pic. What am I doing wrong here? You'll see that the text field box has an outline and one other text entry field as well but that's about it. It can't just be the CSS styling because there are 2 templates for chronoforms, it must be that something isn't/didn't get through in the install?
Help appreciated.

Hi George,

this may be an install problem but that's very hard to happen because you have some fields working fine and too many users have everything fine, so I have another thought, may be your text fields are set to have white border in your template CSS! Can you send me a link to the page to check it, I have the necessary tools to tell me where the problem is!

Thanks for your reply Max. Your suspicions were right! The template CSS had no borders at all, so I changed this to inset. and now it works well. Regarding the flakiness, I did some searching on this forum and realised it must be the fact that each iteration of the application may still hang around in the cache. So I uninstalled and refreshed the site cache and reinstalled and it would seem that the latest component is working as it should. When it works as it is now there is no doubt that it is a very good application.

Thank you for your assistance. BTW what are the tools you use to troubleshoot? AND - when I pay the fee to remove the link to the Chrono site can I use this module on more than one site?

cheers

Hi George,

Glad to know that you are using now the "real" new version!🙂

I was going to use the Firebug extension of Firefox to tell me about the borders and the elements contents!

1 license is for 5 different websites, check the "Licenses" page link from the left side of the home page!
