Getting Started with Chrono!

daytonyouth 25 Oct, 2008
Hello Everyone!! I have a quick overall question for all you experts.

I am still kind of new to Joomla but I am fastly gaining experience through using the program to build two different websites. I work for a church and I am trying to make websites for a couple other small non-profit organizations. This is what leads me to my question-

Do I have to have any experience with html, php, java, or dreamweaver to create medium level forms with Chronoengine? I just need to make out various application forms for a couple non-profits and It seems like Chronoengine would be great because of its ability to mesh with CB and other components. However, as someone not that fluent in the aforementioned items is Chronoengine the best answer to my need? Will I be able to build very good forms inside of the component itself??

I hope someone can answer these questions form me!

Hi Steve,

This is a really hard question to answer and it depends on what you mean by 'very good forms'. Chronoforms can be used to build forms of all shapes and sizes and with many layers of compexity. However, the more complex forms that have interactive features or pull data from many places do require some knowledge of PHP for the logic, Joomla/MySQL to access the data and HTML+CSS for the layout.

If your forms are 'questionnaires' - even very long questionnaires - and they link with one of the Joomla database tables and you want the replies emailed and/or saved then ChronoForms will do this out of the box.

If you have basic HTML skills - you know about table and form tags - then you can customise your form layout quite a lot.

I hope this goes some way to answer your question - if not please ask some more.

Bob
