Spam Mail not blocked

kraadde 31 Jan, 2023
I have a webpage containing a contact form. I included Honeypot and also Recaptcha.
However, I am getting a lot of spam mails where the Name, the Address and the city fields are exactly the same string.
The sender has always a other emailadress and another IP.
Is there a way to block such emails from being sent through the contact form?

NB. I am using Joomla 3.10.11
Thanks

Hello

I was having the same issue. I updated the recaptcha from V2 to V3. I have not had spam for a few days now.

Hello

This hasn't helped to update from recaptcha v2 to v3. The spam has started again. I don't know how to stop. I don't find honeypot in chronoform v7.

Hi, has Honeypot solved your issue now in version 8? Even though I place recaptcha and the security question together in the same form the spam attack still goes on.

Hi Alistair

Does the spam get stored in the Log ? do they have the same IP ? you need to find if this is a SPAM done by humans or not, then you can more methods to block them

They keep changing IPs and keywords, I have now installed a third party app (won't provide the name here to avoid unsolicited publicity) and it's blocking everything! It's logged over a thousand spambots attempts in a few hours, so far I must say miles better than captcha :)

I'm glad to know you found a solution, does the spam blocker use Akismet ?

how many spam messages did you get per day ? and did those get stored in the log ? I'm asking because if they are not stored in the log then your form setup maybe wrong, having the email action in the wrong place will allow mails to be sent very easily

The extension, amongst other things, uses a simple timing method, so setting a few seconds means the form is spotted as spam bot. I don't know about Akismet.

Everything works fine, so I'm assuming the form is set up correctly, I don't know where the Chronoforms log is, I do know that the antispam plug-in is storing them in its log, over a thousand messages overnight. I am now trying without even recaptcha now, only the plug-in, so far so good.

Ok, just make sure the email action is not under the "Load" event of your page, otherwise it's directly accessible

The Log can be found in the Chronoforms v8 forms manager:

Hi, the email action is under the submit event only, and yes Chronoforms is logging everything! (I could not see that without scrolling the screen, thanks).

You need to login to be able to post a reply.
