publish and unpublish buttons

HI,
currently chronoconnectivity provides a binary field where you can change the state but record by record.
it is possible instead
to create publish and unpublish buttons that can save selected recordsets.

using for example the JToolbarHelper class of J3?

I solved by creating hidden fields and using jquery functions,

but my curiosity wanted to find out if there is the possibility of recalling the joomla functions
