Is there a particular png variant require to enable a transparent background? All the ones I upload show it as black rather than clear.

I hear a new version is due ;-)
This is the only thing I really miss, plus animated Gifs for the avatar.

At least could someone explain why the custom image format was used at all? It seems really odd - a lot of effort has gone into breaking what were standard images . My stormtrooper av here is just a regular transparent PNG. These would have worked without doing anything else.
