Lots of people do not know the difference between a stun gun and a Taser this article will explain the differences. Over the past couple decades personal defense has become a larger concern for many people in America. The high crime rates and assaults in the major cities induced the engineering and development of personal defense weapons such as tasers and stun guns. Many people carry self defense weapons everyday and I'm sure many of them are carrying stun guns and tasers. Taser is a copyrighted name of a product that shoots two darts at an attacker. These darts have a range of 15 foot in the civilian model. The electrical energy is sent through one dart and received by the other creating a path of electricity that actually screws up the electrical impulses of the attackers central nervous system. So even if the attacker is on drugs or drunk there is physically no way for that guy to continue moving towards you while you are pressing the shock button. This is very different compared to mace or other self defense techniques. The shock will not permanently harm them or harm you. The civilian model will let you shock that person 50 times...so a long battery life. The civilian models also come with a laser sight and flashlight. Each taser has to be registered so that only approved people can own them and use them. Now on the other hand a stun gun is more of a super high voltage device (up to 4.5 million volts) that will shock the attacker like a cattle prod. This is more of a localized pain and muscle confusion/loss of control than central nervous system disruption. They are more economic to purchase and cost less to maintain. Both of these items can be great for self defense but the person operating them should understand them. You will need to be strong and understand the weaknesses with your self defense tools.
