I have successfully set up five contact forms for a client's site. Each goes to a different address. This has worked well, the emails get sent and all criteria seems to be in place upon receiving.

The issue is that they are unable to reply to the emails. They get a "server error 550: no such user"

I assume this is due to my entering the From email incorrectly, but I've tried various emails, including valid ones, to no resolve.

Attaching an image of the general tab. Have blurred client's email address for obvious security reasons.

Any help would be much appreciated. Please let me know if more info is required.

The answer is that you have left the Reply To fields blank, enter a name and email address in these and all should be well.

I think that Joomla is probably substituting the site default Reply To address which may well be something odd.

Thanks for reviving the post.

Ok, I filled in the reply fields. So now I have From fields and reply fields filled. However, I still cannot reply to the emails.

I'm confused as to how I get the sender's address to be the real from and/or reply address.

I hope its just something really simple I'm missing.

Basically you can't. These emails are 'From' your site, not from the user who submitted the form. And the anti-spam conventions say that emails from your site have to have a matching Reply To address. (I'm sure that there are some isps that don't enforce this but broadly it's true.)

The best workaround that I know of is to include a link in the email like

To reply to the person who submitted this form <a href="mailto:«»sender@example.com?subject=this_subject">click here</a>.

You mean that there is no way to directly reply to an email that is sent through the website?

Unless your isp will let you send emails with other people's email addresses in the Reply To box that's practically correct.

Best thing to do is to experiment with your particular set up and see what is permitted, you may be lucky.
