how do I maintain block references across backup & restore

How do I maintain block references across backup and restore to different sites? I want to be able to shift forms from my develop to test and then production sites. In some cases stored block references are carried over and the correct block is loaded and sometimes not when no block is loaded.. How do I ensure that they are all carried over? I thought supplying a block id would answer the problem but not always it seems. I didn't initially add block ids so is the problem that I am referring to old blocks made before that? Do I need to delete, recreate and re reference those blocks??

Puzzled

Hi Nick,

In the next update the stored block should use the block ids (new stored block only), so if your block has a unique block id then it should not be a problem.

You will not need to delete existing blocks without a Block ID, but you will need to open the block then save it again to get a block id generated.

HI Max

I have tried this for the first time - copy all forms via backup from one site & then restore to another. I still seem to be losing block references. Have I missed a step? On the source site I opened all blocks and saved them again as per your para 2 before I saved/restored the forms & blocks.

Regards

Nick
