Chrono v4 to V5

directivemsp 07 Dec, 2015
Hello,

I was wondering if there was an easier way to migrate chronoforms v4 to v5. We have a lot of websites in v4 so we would like to migrate to v5 in one large push. Because the way we were advised to do it takes way to much time. I was wondering if you knew of an easier process.

Please let me know

Hi directivemsp,

There is no 'magic' answer I'm afraid.

My general advice is to keep using CFv4 until you need to change and then to re-build the forms in CFv5. There is an 'experimental' restore of CFv4 forms into CFv5 but it's not a lot of use as it only imports the HTML and that doesn't include the same structures as are used by CFv5.

I've done quite a few now and my usual approach is to have two browser windows one with the old CFv4 Form Editor and the other with the CFv5 editor - then I work through re-creating the Designer tab, copy over input Names. Labels, IDs etc. That's usually the bulk of the work unless you have custom JavaScript that needs to be translated from MooTools to jQuery.

Most custom PHP will still work with minor tweaks for Joomla! code changes.

And remember that you can backup, restore and copy forms so if you have similar contact forms on different sites you need only create one, copy it and make final adjustments.

Sorry not to have better news.

Since there is no upgrade path, can v4 and v5 run side by side without issues? That way we can add forms as we need to without having to rebuild the complete set of forms.

Thanks!
